Celtine slithered, hopped, and glided to the cliff’s edge. Half a dozen Harpy nests and poles spread out over the ledge across the gorge. Celtine and Prosper had been watching these Harpies for three days now, though with no conclusive evidence that they were the flock that had been raiding coming sailing vessels. It was time, in Celtine’s opinion, for more drastic measures. “They’ll never believe I captured you,” Prosper the male Windcarve Harpy said flatly, as though it were and not at all damaging to his personal pride. “I mean, look. I’m a male. You’re a female.” He scoffed. “As if.” Celtine eyed Prosper’s strange musculature, and then her own twisting and lithe body. “They’ll believe it. Spirals are small. Not necessarily known for their prowess in combat.” She adjusted the ring on her finger, the one that had a knife hidden next to her knuckle. “But, for the record, you could never capture me.” Prosper stared at the flock. Without warning, he slapped her with his winged arm. Celtine laughed quietly. “It’s true, though.” “It may be,” Prosper agreed, “but you don’t have to be so gleeful about it.” Making a show of being gleeful, she held her arms up. She folded her wings underneath her violently purple cape. “Go ahead. Tie me up.” With a sigh, Prosper started wrapping Celtine clumsily in twine. “You know this is going to be an unmitigated disaster, right?” After objecting to Prosper tying her wings down too tightly, Celtine considered his prediction. “We’ve always found our way out of strange situations before.” Prosper hopped back to take a look at his work. “Strange, indeed.” He grabbed the ends of the rope binding her and tugged on them. Celtine grinned and didn’t even budge. “Yeah. They’ll never believe this. |
Since her earliest days, Celtine has been getting what she wants through her wits and wiles.Taking after her mother, Celtine went wherever the Wind took her without too much concern for the dragons she left behind. There is no better actor in all the Tempest Chase, since most will notice her confidence far before they notice it’s all fast-talking flim-flamery. The only creature that ever called her out on it has been her fugitive harpy friend, Prosper. Together, they’ve pulled more scams on both dragon clans and Harpy flocks than they collectively have fingers to count on. Most of the time these plans work out for their benefit, but more than one scam has led to their imprisonment. So far their escapes have outnumbered their captures by one. Even though Celtine would like everyone to believe she’s gotten out of every scrape mostly on her own (Prosper’s help doesn’t count), everyone knows this isn’t true. Though Celtine is too embarrassed to admit it, her clumsy now-mate, Iacchus, helped her escape a couple of times from tight spots that might have been the end of her. She tends to overlook these instances in her tales to her friends, but she’s does find Iacchus’s inept attempts to win her favor adorable. These days, she protects him more than he protects her. After joining the Tempest Chase as a means of legitimate, but still exciting, employment, she keeps Iacchus on the straight and narrow, even though she follows her own winding path to treasure and adventure. She works with Abbey’s group of raiders periodically, sending word from her incursions into enemy territory. Celtine’s ability to blend in almost anywhere has earned her the nickname “Chameleon” among the raiders, and Celtine has taken to it with pride. Nature can be cruel. Celtine believes this more than almost anything. She has no qualms about taking what she needs and destroying things that might destroy her or the things and people she cares about. And sometimes she’s just unpredictably disastrous. Celtine’s temper has been terrifying, and still sometimes is. With her induction to the Tempest Chase, she’s learned to keep it under control and keeps her claws for monsters. |

PROSPER - prince
» Given that Celtine has been a spy for longer than she can remember, it’s understandable that most dragons doubt that Turntail is her true surname. » Even though Celtine can play most parts convincingly, she most likes to pretend she’s a fancy and well-to-do dragon. Miraculously, her character doesn’t turn out to be caricature. » The violet corsage Celtine wears is a gift from her father, Gale.
