Name: Glimmer
11To8sq.png11To8sq.png11To8sq.png
Physical description: A snapper old enough that, despite her flight being lightning, she is slowly turning into stone.
11To8sq.png11To8sq.png11To8sq.png
Personality: Rather old and jovial, she often is something of a cross between grandmotherly and a crazy aunt. When it comes to work, she takes it seriously and will dodge around any specifics, as she dislikes sharing with information outside of her team.
11To8sq.png11To8sq.png11To8sq.png
Brief History: Hatched in the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse while her clan was pausing to exchange stories, she was always fascinated with electricity and ended up working at Project for a few years, before the company changed the... direction of it's efforts. Glimmer took her remaining team of four other dragons with her when she quit to a smaller company in a similar field. However, one of her teammates didn't seem to quite notice what was wrong and why she disliked poking around the code of androids. Eventually said teammate makes a mistake that nearly cost Glimmer her visiting neiph, and did tragically kill a handful of others from or visiting the company. Due to this, the old snapper moved on to an even smaller company with her two remaining teammates before, suddenly, disappearing with the destruction of that company.

Hatched in the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse while her clan was pausing to exchange stories, she was always fascinated with electricity and bounced around from company to company, loosely trailing after her birth clan due to her love for her family. They let her do this for a long while before her sister, who was a new mother at the time, told her that it's time for her to fully split off and follow her passion more than her family. They'll still be there, after all. They can still visit, and they absolutely plan to.

So with that, Glimmer threw herself into research and companies. Leaving whenever she felt restless and satisfied with her work there. She gained a number of contacts through her various jobs and generally upbeat attitude, and learned that she thrived the most when working on the cutting edge of a field, even if it's not her that will make that breakthrough.

By the time an old contact reaches out to her again, she's a rather old Snapper, old enough that her flesh has even started to turn into a precious stone. However, she has yet to show any real sign of slowing down or letting it interfere with her job. Which her ex-colleague was happy to see, especially as they just referenced her to a company that seems to be as on the cutting edge of technological advancements as possible: Project.

That company ended up being the one she stayed at for the longest of them all, having been there for quite a few years.
Admittedly, she was often ignored, but preferred it that way and used it to her advantage. She sees, she hears, she learns, she remembers. Glimmer was rather proud of her particular job and crew too, leading a small team on a strong candidate for a breakthrough in memory handling.

Once the company changed the... direction of it's efforts, and androids started becoming the main focus and future of Project, Glimmer quickly realized the depths of cruelty and blindness possible within the company. She knew those androids could feel. She saw the life in their eyes. Could feel the truth in their movement and gestures.
She also knew she couldn't do anything about it too. She knew much, but had no pull or weight within it to change anything, especially as her crew was slowly tempted or stripped away. When her department was finally down to only five - including herself - she decided that she had had enough. She loved her work, but could not be a part of it any longer. She quit the day after the the last one went to tell her that the other members were getting more offers too, only not sharing that fact to protect her feelings. Those last four members left with her, not that it was much of a loss to Project, what with the boom it was going through. So, the crew of five engineers were swiftly free of Project's grasp.

Glimmer and her teammates ended up joining a smaller company working on less life-like creations and all agreed they enjoyed the much closer-feeling community that it had.

Yet... a (now) ex-team members ended up pulled into a job that was between the smaller company, and Project. This teammate found the code snippets provided absolutely fascinating. Sometimes they'd go over to Glimmer to pick her brain and share what they saw. She enjoyed these visits, until she learned that the code was from Androids.
Frowning at the dragon across from her, she firmly said "As your friend, I must tell you that nothing good will come from this. Dragons have created life, yet see naught but slaves."
The other waved her concerns and warning off, it's just some code after all! Despite ignoring her warning, they did respect her wish that no more code be brought in though, and they still came for tea and to share what else they've worked on.
The tea times were a tad tense for awhile, but eventually eased up, though Glimmer had a bad feeling remaining in the pit of her stomach.

Glimmer's sister's grandkid wanted to see what great aunty 'Gleam' was working on. They were just hitting their growth spurt and were interested in the mechanics field. They leaned more towards prosthetics, but still wanted to explore everything before they settled.
So Glimmer said she would happily take 'em under her wing for the day when she was asked. (Though not actually, as her great-neiph was already much taller than her by then.) There was even a demonstration and visiting day for the entire company soon! It would be a good day.

It should have been a good day.
The company was abuzz as the visitation day approached and she didn't notice her missing notes. The diagrams not on the wall. Too busy watching her charge. She'd later curse the air vibrantly blue at her not noticing. Literally, with her lightning magic sparking at every syllable.

Her colleagues were gathering to see something important happen and she decided to take her gangly neiph with her. If such a large group was allowed to gather, it should be fine.

Last second patches are a horrible idea. You always have to test-run it. She makes sure all who know her after, will remember this.

Glimmer never had any trouble with her limitations as a Snapper. Not ever, aside from a few childhood jealousies.
But she did wish in that moment that she was bigger. Big enough to actually put her sister's grandkid under her wing to shield them from the shrapnel and fire.
As it was, she was not that big. She was but a Snapper.
All she could do was let her hide take the hit... And it was barely enough.

Her ex-colleague's greed and need to be impressive caused them to be reckless. Caused the death of many dragons and nearly the death of her family member. Despite that, Glimmer didn't wish death upon them. There's been plenty of that recently.
That doesn't stop her from punching them though. Or having to restrain the urge to shock sense into them.

Later, she learns that the experimental code was spilled to many companies. Warped time after time, leaving little of her coding, but it was still there nonetheless. Was there when the Unity incident happened.

For now, all she had was merely 2 team members still alive. Both of them disowning that other member and, somehow, they still wished to follow Glimmer. So she went further. To an even smaller company.

One day, she caught wind - from another old colleague of hers - that androids being auctioned off from Project, and why.
After a discussion, she pooled her extra treasure with her current colleagues and they managed to buy one of the fae models.
They asked for no modifications and swiftly received a battered Aerfen. Of course, he wasn't called Aerfen at first. He was A3R. A-model, 3rd in batch R.
His label was one of the first things Glimmer changed, giving him a name.
It was certainly not the last that got changed, especially as Aerfen was running out of memory and always had to pick and choose what to save. Thankfully the memory storage research that Glimmer and her team had been working on, was continued as side project through their... 'adventures', and proved very useful for Aerfen.

On day, Aerfen was oddly quiet. Glimmer noticed immediately, but didn't have time to ask him what was up until long after it was dark outside.
When she approached him, he asked her if she had ever heard of FL/GHT.
She had, a few drinks with some kinder ex-colleagues let her hear many stories about what FL/GHT has done. She's quite truthful in sharing that she has, and Aerfen is quiet for awhile, before finally speaking up.
"... They want to... 'rescue' me. They contacted me, and apparently they have contacted some others of my model that survived."
Glimmer stiffens and closes her eyes, but before she can say anything, Aerfen speaks up again.
"I don't want to go, but I do want to see my siblings. Not... not alone though. Will you come with me?"
Glimmer grimaces, she had her team, they would all have to go... but she also wants to let her friend see what is essentially his family.
So, with a nod, Glimmer agrees and Aerfen beams widely at her.

"It's happening more frequently."
"Yeah. I've been noticing, they're getting dangerously close."
"Glimmer..."
"I know, I know. But we just need to finish a couple more things, then we're all home free. You've all trusted me thus far."
"And we'd do it again without hesitation, but Aerfen's right to worry. It may be too close."
"Kalleh, we both know-"
Glimmer sighs and speaks up again. "Enough. We all know we'll just go in circles for another three hours, but we do have genuine work to do."
With that, they all nervously glance around at each other, and then finally nod, hugging each other before dispersing to do their tasks.
Their final ones.

The tiny company Glimmer had been working at, has completely destroyed. Burnt to the ground with anti-tech messages and UNITY symbols everywhere.
As for the dragons that worked there?
All were called in as dead.

Glimmer and Aerfen full-time join FL/GHT and end up as a scouting duo put in charge of monitoring an odd nearby signal that ends up being a Hive.
Glimmer is something similar to a Field Medic/Engineer agent, watching out for and repairing Aerfen, while he's watching the Hive and notes down details about the Hive members.

When they're at base, Glimmer then likely spends most of her time on the Innovation team, developing, mostly, ways to improve memory storage.
Glimmer's old and her skin may be stiff, but she can be surprisingly strong and fast when she needs to be. (Nothing super-dragon, just unexpected for her age and demeanor. She keeps in shape.)
