Monarch

Leader of the Unseelie Court and enemy against the Seelies. Monarch's corruption from the shade-magic resulted in his isolation, becoming paranoid and unable to feel emotions of his own. The goal of the UnSeelie Court is to drain the energy and emotions from other dragons, leaving them shallow, emotionless husks of their former selves.

Monarch desperately wishes to undo the curse that Fae-Hollow has placed upon him.

From the Seelie Court's point of view, Monarch is a villain, a sneaky dragon who uses his blessings from the shade-magic for evil intentions. Monarch would argue he is the only one in the entire lair to see Fae-Hollow as it truly is; a city of glimmer and magic covering darkness and cruelty.

Monarch did not start his life in Fae-Hollow, but the dragon could no longer remember his life outside of the city. His interest in politics and affairs quickly deemed him someone of high importance to the Seelie Council, but his introversion and distrustful nature prevented him from joining the council itself. Monarch's early attempts to bond with the other dragons were clumsy, awkward, and overall fruitless.

Monarch was always introverted. His first appearance in Fae-Hollow was met with awkward attempts to connect to the people, though Monarch wasn't cruel or apathetic at first. He simply had trouble finding his role within the city. The shade "blesses" all those who enter Fae-Hollow differently, and it's considered an honor once the city changes you. Monarch went the longest without noticeable changes from the shade, further ostracizing him from the others.

When Monarch shed no tears for the death of his mate, he knew he had finally changed. The "blessing" from the shade he had heard so much about had finally granted him his special gift - he was virtually emotionless. Monarch kept the information to himself, knowing it would only isolate him further. For several days, the only emotion the dragon could bring forth was anger. Why him? What had he to be granted such a cruel "blessing?"


The first time Monarch had drained the energy from another, it was during his routine scouting mission with Colias. The two dragons flew high above the Starwood Strand, their keen eyes - sharpest in the city - spotting points of interest on the ground with ease. It had been weeks since Monarch obtained his "blessing," but to the others, he was still untouched by the shade-magic - called "Blessings from the Fairies" by the others. Monarch snorted at the romanticized outlook they had.

Monarch was the first to spot the lone dragon below, struggling with an injury. Since his emotions became severely muted, he had learned to lie and fake with increasing ease. His silvertongue worked an excuse to be alone from Colias, and while the other scouter searched ahead, Monarch landed with ease and precision of an experienced flier. He watched with mild curiosity at the straggler, and soon realized the blossoming tinged in his heart was expanding, until he felt the other's injuries as if they were his own. He stumbled, ears ringing from the shock.

Was this another part of his blessing? The ability to sense others emotions?

Monarch focused harder on the dragon, pulling all the pain and fear from them, almost relishing in the whirlpool of feelings. Monarch could feel again, and even though pain blazed through him, he smiled with earnest for the first time in weeks. The stranger fell to the forest floor, wheezing and shaking. The pain through Monarch slowly receded, replaced by happiness, strong curiosity and confusion. He quickly realized these were his own emotions circling through him now. The stranger was alive, but Monarch didn't know if they now bore the curse that inflicted Monarch, cursed to live the rest of his life in a state of apathy.

The curse seemed to hover around Monarch, waiting for the right time to clutch him once more. Days after his encounter with the dragon, Monarch felt himself slipping back into his previous apathetic state. The last emotion he felt was fear for what he had to do - if this was the "blessing" gifted to him by the city, he would use it to his full advantage, for if the city wanted to birth a monster, he would play his role.
