"You know, I used to be a pirate..."
It's how he starts most of his stories, drawing in the hatchlings with tales of the high seas. Perhaps it's his favorite because it's true... Sort of. Hinun always wanted to be a pirate, but was never allowed to join a crew. Just by looking at him, they could tell he was too soft to do what they wanted, and typically the position of 'virtually useless cabin boy' was taken. Then again, he only tried two crews before giving up. Perhaps if he had tried harder, he would've succeeded. He felt that he was land-bound for a reason, though, and only a handful of years later, he discovered what that reason was. During an exhausting day of collecting materials for the clan to use, his feet were dragging and he was hardly paying attention to where he was going. Fate works in mysterious ways, he decided, as he got to his feet and helped the lovely lady to her feet again. |

It was his favorite time of year, when summer was giving way to fall, and he took a moment to appreciate the trees above them, the leaves slightly yellow. For once in his life, Hinun was at a loss for words; he couldn't even find the words to apologize for knocking her over, but she seemed to understand, a smile seen from under her autumn hood, though her eyes were unseen. He felt very at ease in this dragon's presence, utterly relaxed, as though there were no troubles in his life. He was content to keep his silence though, and with a smile, gestured to a lush patch of grass where both of them could relax with their personal space intact. She seemed rather tired, and he could certainly use a break as well. The two took it easy in the shade of the large tree they lay beneath, and only when she broke the silence with an almost inaudible yawn did he find the courage to say, x
"You know, I used to want to be a pirate...
But I gave it up for love." |
