Tayli is ancient beyond memory and a skilled practitioner of the magic arts. She remembers the time before Cerar Oriya was settled, when the Mountain City was but a mountain - or she could remember, if she bothered to. She very rarely has reason to dig that deep into time. In these modern days, she presents a respectable face to the world, quietly running a small curio shop on the floor of Cerar Oriya's crater.

By night, though, her true nature emerges and Tayli goes hunting. Few places are as perfect for vampire habitation as Cerar Oriya, with its plunging, shadowy crater, and its vast, transient population. Nobody notices when a few homeless vagrants or stumbling drunks disappear in the night. As an ancient vampire it is her right to choose her territory, and having found such fertile hunting grounds, she guards it fiercely from all her kind. She will tolerate nothing lesser than her in the territory she has claimed, and those greater than her are very, very few.
