Biography

Parents have lore

Cian looks like a typical shadow dragon. He has colours of midnight and obsidian. Many other young shadow dragons from Darkshade village look up to him because of his appearance. There were some rumours that he was born straight out of the sacred shadows. Some said a shade spirit inhabited him, causing him to be so solemn and dark. But he was neither: he thought of himself just as a completely ordinary dragon.

Cian is a rather quiet dragon, almost anti-social. Whenever there are parties or celebrations, he will always find an excuse not to go. He didn’t like being too near to anyone, or he would snarl at their faces and do unpleasant things. Dragons of other flights thought of him as eerie, spooky and gloomy. He lives alone, away from everybody else. He didn't know where or who were his parents, and didn't care anyways. "Solitary" was always the best for him.

To avoid others and burn time, he would hide in his room and make amulets made from gemstones or rocks found outside. He would put them in a leather pouch and carefully bring them back. The process of making was quite challenging: He had to enchant them using spells, carve them out into animals or dragons, and write runes on them to seal off the shadow magic. Things could easily go wrong in between those steps. He thought amulets could help just in case he needed self- protection. The amulets he made were delicate and beautifully sculpted into shapes of animals or dragons. The magic they held were strong and wouldn’t leak out. He kept his collection in a small wooden box. But he also took one or two of it along with him every day in case of an accident. Cian didn’t even know that what he made was of high quality, and was very rare to be seen in Sornieth.

One day, he was out by the ruins beside the village picking up gemstones and rocks, trying to skip a school gathering. He squinted his eyes and searched the barren ground for potential stones to make amulets. Although there were loads of rocks on the floor, but he knew that very little could hold enough magic to be made into an amulet. In his left claw was a purple amulet he just made, which he used to compare to the stones on the ground. The amulet was shaped like a pouncing leopard, pulsating with magic, the runes on its surface glowing. Suddenly, he saw a black rock glowing out of the corner of his vision. Curious, he leaned down to pick it up. Once his clawtips touched its surface, a dark wisp of smoke emerged with two glowing orbs as eyes: a Terebrae. Cian stumbled back and cursed silently. These were hostile shade spirits that were very difficult to defeat. Instantly, his pulse quickened in horror and his knees nearly turned into jelly. Without thinking, he threw his amulet at the Terebrae and spoke a spell to release the magic. A wisp of purple smoke rose from the amulet and took the shape of a leopard. The "leopard" pounced at the Terebrae and grappled with it until the spirit dissolved. Then it turned to Cian, bowed to him, then disappeared into the air. Until then did he realise how powerful his amulets were.

Cian knew he had to show the world his talent. He opened a shop to sell his amulets: and earned a fortune. Dragons from all across the world would come to Darkshade village just to buy his amulets. He now could make amulets containing other spells: healing spells, cooking spells (to cook for the lazy dragon), cleaning spells... and many others. He could customize it to the customer's needs. As long as they could mention it, he could do it. He ensured that every single buyer was satisfied with what they paid for. Cian is now the best amulet maker in Sornieth.
