Dragon Log

An older female who loves the exploration of wisdom as well as magic, she arrived from a Fire lair already named. Her name is a reflection of her devotion to the Mind, as well as the physical aspect of air represented by the Goddess Athena's owl.

She is also something of a flirt. Currently, she has three hatchlings with an overly proud Purple Male Pearlcatcher. She is already looking elsewhere for her next catch, however. That Thistle Guardian looks like he might have some possibilities, if she can ever break his mooning over the uninterested Light Dragon...

9-5-14: Her Wildwood Owl friend has fully Awakened! Athena is pleased at his newfound wisdom, and looking forward to many new conversations with him. In the meantime, however, she is looking for a new friend to help on that journey....

9-6-14: With the help of her old friend the Wildwood Owl himself, Athena has found her new companion. Perhaps this Sakura Owl will be able to provide the small bonded group with some more esoteric musings...

11-24-14: Much to her own surprise, Athena was one of the dragons Moondust picked to accompany Duskshadow to the Rockbreaker's Ceremony. The Clan Father did not give any reason for his choice, other than to state that she "needed to go." The Peatlcatcher Mage had no idea what that could mean, but she is beginning to get a hint, with the way some of the younger dragons are forgetting all about their responsibilities to the Clan, such as the one she is currently searching for...

Athena huffed at the sight of Amber at the stall full of rocks. Of course the young Coatl would be there. She really didn't know why she had tried anywhere else first.... The exasperated Pearlcatcher tapped her wayward charge on the tail.

"Amber, love, you were supposed to meet the others for a hunting session half an hour ago. Remember? What is so fascinating, anyway?"

She turned towards the stall, feeling a slight pang at the young Earth dragon's unhappy face, and blinked. A guessing game? Well, now, that was interesting... Athena licked her lips. She loved puzzles, and games, and well, it wasn't that late... and it wasn't like they needed her and Amber for the hunt... and she could have sworn she had seen that purple rock somewhere before... the Pearlcatcher leaned over the rocks, her errand almost completely forgotten...

Oh dear..it looks like the usually responsible mage has forgotten herself in Festival fun. Who would have thought it?

11-28-14: It has been several days, and Athena (and Amber) has hardly moved from the rock guessing stall, chatting with freindly Earth dragons (who like dropping hints), and trading off with the young Coatl, Amber. on who gets the honor of filling out the form each day. Some other concerns, however, have begun to intrude, and Athena is growing a little worried..

Athena leaned back, stretching her wings and talons. She had a fairly good idea on the rocks for today... or at least, she thought she did. She was more concerned about Amber, who had been chased off earlier by another dragon of their Clan in an attempt to get the young Coatl to eat something. Amber hadn't been back yet, and Athena was growing concerned. The young dragon desperately wanted to prove herself.... she knew she should have gone for the food herself.

Athena sighed, picked up a form, and hurriedly filled in her guesses. It looked like she was going to have to go looking for the young one....

"Athena!"

Athena turned quickly, catching sight of an extremely agitated Amber. The poor Coatl was soaking wet, and dragging a Mysterious Cowl of all things.

"I think I, um, messed up..." Amber blurted, "I saw a tub and I thought it was fish, and it wasn't, and well--"

Athena raised her eyebrows as Amber's rushed explanation came out, guessing what had happened. Hiding a smile, she took the cloak from the much younger dragon, and gestured to Amber's usual spot by the table.

"Stay here young one, I'll find us some food...and don't worry. I'm sure the stall owner didn't mind you bobbing for the cloak. That's what it was there for, after all." Patting the embarrassed Coatl on the back, she handed her the form. "Here, you put the guesses in today..."

And so Amber is now the owner of a new cloak rather than the fish she was looking for, and Athena is on a quest for food instead...

11-29-14: That quest took a lot longer than the Mage thought it would, as the stall in question was very well hidden behind several others, but eventually she was successful...

Athena hurried towards the delicious smells wafting from the tent up ahead. Finally! She had been a little afraid that she wouldn't be able to find it before the Festival Grounds closed, and Amber was definitely going to need something to eat... and come to think of it, so was she. There was the rest of the Clan to think of as well.... Athena sighed. She'd best get a lot of food. She looked at the sign, and shrugged.

"Can I have one of everything, please?" Quickly she counted the amount in her head--Mussels, Cluckers, Melon Cubes, Rock Balls, and the Grab Bag....now what was in there? Hopefully something tasty--and that would bring the total to 15 Geodes... good thing she had encountered the Clan Mother and received a hefty supply earlier!

The motherly Pearlcatcher deposited the needed Geodes in the container, and took the food, nodding her thanks to the Snapper running the stand. Then she headed back the way she had come, to the Rock Guessing stand and her young self-appointed charge, who hopefully hadn't fainted from hunger yet....

Fortunately, Amber had not, in fact, fainted. And now she and Athena have submitted their last guesses, gotten their results--good and bad--and are heading home, escorted by an indulgent Clan Mother, who hasn't said a word about their tardiness or lack of appearance at the camp throughout the Festival. Athena has to admit that she has had a wonderful time, but she still can't figure out why Moondust said that she "needed" to go. There weren't any disasters she could help with after all...

12-5-14: The Sakura Owl has Awakened! He seems very happy with the new place the Clan recently moved to, and is now pondering the probable outcome of an exploration into the nether parts of the caves....

12-18-14: Athena's friend the Sakura Owl decided to explore the inner caves... and the Smoky Bantam Fangar resting there immediately came out. Despite a rocky start, the Fire dragon and the cat-like being seem to be getting along quite well....

3-18-15: The Smoky Bantam Fangar has Awakened! And just in time, too. Athena's adopted son is needing more and more attention as he get older, but she was worried about leaving her beloved companion to his own devices. Now that he is fully mature, she doesn't have to worry anymore and can focus on Anguis' needs....which right now center around his helpless attempts to find a mate.....

8-22-16: Helping Anguis with his unfortunate love-life (or lack thereof) is proving to be quite a challenge. Life, however, goes on, and the Flameforger's Festival has provided Athena with a welcome distraction from her poor son's difficulties. This year, there was an extra surprise: a Blazing Goblin has apparently decided that Athena would make a worthy companion. She is thrilled with Ash's choice, but a little worried about the sudden disappearance of her beloved Wildwood Owl, who seems to not share her enthusiasm for the fierce spymaster....

1-4-17: Ash has Awakened! Perhaps now he will stop tripping over his own tail...

8-27-17: This year Athena decided to indulge in some nostalgia and return to the lands of her birth during the Flameforger's Festival. She stumbled on a very interesting stall, involving tossing embers into bottles by pumping billows... ( )

8-28-17: Athena's efforts at the stall were not as good as she would have liked, but they were not too terrible either, and she ended up with several nice bottles for her trophy shelf, as a result. ( )

The interesting part, however, came when Athena's adopted son, Anguis, interrupted, and decided that he wanted to try out the game as well. Sensing a way to gently guide Anguis away from the flights he simply was not suited for, Athena greatly encouraged his enthusiasm… ( )

8-29-17: Incredibly, Anguis did very well at pumping the billows. Perhaps he has, indeed, found a new vocation? Athena certainly hopes so, as she has gotten a little tired of patching him up after he loses his “sure” fights. And perhaps if he has discovered some skill at pumping fire and forging items, he will be able to attract a mate? Hmmm...now there's a thought....

9-2-17: Athena, Sapphire (her friend and fellow "parent" of Anguis) and Anguis all returned to the Fire Forge Stall together for the final day of the Flameforger's Festivl. They decided to engage in a friendly competition to end the week... ( )

So the family had a great time, and came home with some nice ever-flaming bottles to display on their Trophy Shelves....

9-3-18: Though Athena was born to the Fire Flight, her magical proficiency is actually in Mental Magic, and manipulating the element of Air. A fact that the Clan was rather forcefully reminded of today when she suddenly acquired a Luminous Halo, indicative of her Mental Magery, right after casting a spell...

6-9-19: Lately a tide of magical energy has been sweeping the Clan, causing quite a few magic auras to appear in the visible spectrum, on both dragons who were expecting it, and those who were not. As Athena had already acquired one such Halo, it really did not surprise anyone in the Clan that the most recent upsurge of this phenomenon left her with an Aerborne Halo as well, though the barely discernable Searing Emblem that also appeared today was a bit of a pleasant surprise...

8-25-19: Athena decided to attend the Flameforger’s Festival again this year, and bumped into her “daughter” at the Ember Toss Game. Much to Athena’s horror. “Quadrangla” was once again experimenting with her 4-part magic, trying to use Nature, Wind and Fire to encourage flower flames to ignite…( , , ) Fortunately, Athena has been able to handle her adopted daughter’s magic for some time, and managed to intervene before disaster had much of a chance to strike—and she was even able to try her own paw at the Forge, too! ( ) Even so, it might be a good idea for the motherly Pearlcatcher to take a closer look at “Quadrangla”’s friends in the Clan. There was something oddly familiar about those leaping animalistic flames…

8-26-19: After she stopped “Quadrangla” from burning down the tent and everyone in it--and made a mental note to have a long chat with Norberta and JKR about what they should and should not be teaching the irrepressible (or was that irresponsible?) 4-Element Mage-Adept--Athena tried her own paw at the Forge, looking for some fire flowers to bring home to her Trophy Shelf. ( ) She needed a bit of instructional review ( ), but after that she was more than ready to try for the bottles ( )…

…And she was extremely successful! Along with all 5 of her bottles lighting, Athena also received a nice piece of armor as a prize, when she decided to help the Snapper Fuller out with a project ( ). Anguis, Athena’s son is quite impressed with her success at the forge, and has already offered to help her complete the set…

4-7-20: Athena got a bit of a surprise today, when her old friend that Wildwood Owl reappeared, after a very long absence. He gave no explanation for his appearance--nor, for that matter, for his original disappearance--and simply settled back down in his old spot on the ledge near her sleeping area. A quick chat with some other dragons in the Clan has revealed that other "missing" familiars have begun to return as well, also without any explanation. For now, Athena has decided not to pry too closely into her friend's sudden change of heart, and just enjoy his company again--for as long as it lasts...
