A battlefield never changes, only one's perspective on it. No matter how a dragon may look at it, it never changes. Soaked in blood, draped in a blanket of bodies. It never changes. There's nothing to celebrate. A victory? What purpose did taking lives serve? Who were we to fighting to begin with?

The three of us... never understood why the gods would do this to us. Kept us in a prison of time, with no escape, or a break. Physically, we could go for centuries, but mentally, we were exhausted. Our spirits couldn't evolve, or even die, we were trapped with only each other to lean on.

The three of us became extremely close. The bond we share could only be sivered through death, which I've yearned for as long as I was here. I didn't want to fight anymore, neither did the others, but we were compelled to relive that one moment on the battlefield. Where I finished the battle in a single blow, leaving only regret when I looked into the eyes of a hatchling.

It's eyes were red as blood, but frightened from it's fate. We were at war because we wanted to protect the weak, but I was the weak one for ending such a young life, I couldn't stop when I had the chance, and I was forced to relive that moment over, and over again. No matter how much I want to change the outcome, I have to. I wasn't in control of my body.

The sky changed from a dim orange, to a navy blanket with twinkling lights. Stars. The moons. It was so beautiful, and the fresh air filled my chest to the brim, like I was holding it the whole time. All heard from Nakem was, "I think we're finally free" before I collapsed.
