The Three were found on the shores of the Starwood one gloomy morning after a meteor shower by Todash, the clan's mage. The unhatched egg was hovering just over the sand, slowly orbiting a shard of meteorite glowing with arcane fire. Initially, Todash planned to take the meteorite and leave the egg, but one invariably trailed after the other when moved, and so, when the egg hatched, Todash found herself in possession of a child.

As the young dragon grew, she demonstrated a strong affinity for her element's magic. As a hatchling, she would totter around Todash's observatory, lifting interesting objects off high shelves with her mind to thoughtfully examine. Todash taught her the rudimentary basics of magic that would prevent her from accidentally hurting herself, but did her best not to treat the child like a potential apprentice. She was much more interested in the strange fragment of space rock that had fallen to Sorineth with her charge- though the meteorite showed no interest in her. The older the hatchling grew, the harder it became to separate her from the stone, which seemed perfectly content to let itself be rolled around like any other child's toy.

Not long after that, the young skydancer began to show symptoms of a strange progressive illness. She began sleepwalking, and complained of constant fatigue, then of numbness and a disconnected feeling from her own body. Her coat grew dark and mottled like mildew, and began shedding profusely. When the first nodes of the fungus showed themselves on her skin, Todash remembered the faint orange dust she had carelessly brushed off both egg and meteorite when she found them. Soon, spiraling tendrils of the alien parasite that had been lying dormant in the young dragon covered her hide. The fruiting bodies didn't seem to affect her movement or cause her pain, and seemed in fact to be attempting to mimic the structure of ordinary feathers (although most feathers don't recoil when prodded).

As the fungal infestation progressed, the worst symptoms faded, and with it, most of the dragon's formative personality. At times the wickedly intelligent and playfully curious skydancer would shine through, but more often, she became quiet and distant, absorbed in her own world. Sometimes, she moved strangely, as if there were some other intelligence maneuvering her body. Where she walked, she would shed her parasite's spores in a fine glowing dust around her. The dragon's reluctant mother was far from helpful during her transformation. Todash had grown feverishly obsessed with separating the symbiote, driven by her own inquisitive and often sadistic nature to experiment on them, trying desperately to dissect the meteorite's host and its fungal passenger. Confused and struggling within themselves, the three endured these experiments as long as they could, but Todash only increased their invasiveness as time went on. Eventually, they snapped, unwilling to tolerate Todash's abuse any longer. The Three threatened to fight back if she ever laid a claw on them again, but their warnings were ignored and they were forced to release a churning storm of arcane energy to protect themselves. The blast engulfed Todash's observatory and shook the foundations of the entire lair to its core. When the swirls of glowing debris finally settled, all that was left was a crater of pink glass and the writhing, shivering form of the three curled at its center, clutching their meteorite for dear life. Todash herself seemed to have vanished, and if she survived the incident, she must have the good sense not to show her face in front of her daughter again. Perhaps she lives on in some distanct clan, scarred and bitter, continuing her corrupted work in the shadows.

Over time, III took up her mother's mantle as the Galehart clan's resident arcanist, and the parasite and its host seemed to reach equilibrium. Old mushrooms would wither and molt in sync with the dragon's own plumage, and new would grow in their place, never advancing deep enough to kill their host or impede her quality of life. In her moments of lucidity, the dragon seemed quite happy with their arrangement. They explain that experiencing the world through her parasite's heightened senses is euphoric, to say the least, and that the meteorite grants her glimpses into the universe's secrets it would trust no other dragon enough to share. She believes it was her bond with the strange crystal that manages the fungus' spread, that it is somehow protecting both of them and keeping a balance where they could achieve healthy symbiosis. It is true that the parts of her body that had the most contact with the magical artifact as a hatchling, her claws, underbelly, and face, seem relatively free of infection. It was by her own suggestion that the dragon became known not as one, but Three. For as they maintained, none could survive on Sorineth without the other two's unique contributions to the system they form. As far as they know, they aren't contagious, but few are willing to take that risk without a protective charm or a hazmat suit...
