God of the abyss. Benthic patrols the pitch black depths of the ocean floor, keeping careful watch over the alien beasts that lurk there. He is especially jealous of his sister, the goddess of shallow seas, because he is the one who creates and nurtures the majority of Sornieth's marine life. This envy has turned Benthic into a malevolent, vengeful deity. He broods on the ocean floor, beckoning unknowing fish (an occasionally dragons) to his domain with his alluring bioluminescent scales.

Occasionally, when Benthic is at his angriest, he musters the power to summon the water of the shallow seas to him. This results in upwelling, a celebrated event in most Water Flight clans. All the nutrients of the deep sea is transferred to the shallow waters, resulting in a blossoming of planktonic life. This in turn is a boon for fish and marine arthropod populations. As a result, Benthic is respected rather than feared, something he greatly despises.

Water Flight dragons are careful to sacrifice to him routinely to avoid his wrath. He is, after all, considerably more powerful than the shallow-sea god, and can drag any swimming dragons down to his kingdom if he so desires.
