Biography

Makaria

Uh-oh, looks like this sweet fae wandered a little too far from her home lair (306426, EnglishRose), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

After a slightly uneventful journey, our tiny friend had found herself In a lesser lair of the Emberglow Hearth. She glanced around, taking in the sight of burnt trees, and lots of magma vents. She wondered how on earth any one could enjoy this sweltering heat. And lack of foliage. As she was looking about, she failed to hear the approaching WC.
In an instant, she felt something heavy land upon her small body, knocking the wind from beneath her wings and out of her lungs. Ash Filled the sky as Makaria hit the ground. Panicked, she lunged out with her small paws, swiping at everything around her.
A painful screech filled the air as her claws came into contact with flesh. Her attacker backed away, shaking off the surprise of her attack. As she felt the weight of the larger creature back off her, she knew this was her chance! She scrambled up on her feet, spread her wings and took to the sky hoping this was an earthen bound creature.

At a high enough distance, she looked back, her chest pained from the attack. Trembling from fear and adrenaline. Where is it? where is the creature that attacked me? She was prepared to fight for her life if need be. Never back down, no matter the size of your foe. The words taught to every fae as they grew.

Just as she began to think the creature had simply vanished, she felt a claw on her tail. Hissing, claws ready to demolish her foe, she tucked into a flip to release her tail from the monsters grip. only to be met with a scaled paw in her face. Scratching, reaching out as far as she could whilst shutting her eyes as tight as possible " I WILL BE NO MONSTERS LUNCH THIS DAY!!!" she roared.
"Lunch? oh my, no. You are way too small to be even a snack. A nibble perhaps, but I do not partake in the consumption of fellow dragonkind"

Confused, she stopped clawing at the attacker. she opened her eyes to see a male wildclaw.
" Hello, I am Ceylon. Unfortunately it would seem one of my clanmates mistook you as possible prey. ETHEREAL!! GET YOUR BUTT UP HERE AND APOLOGIZE!!"

A defiant groan came from the ground, as a teenage dragoness began her ascend to the fae.
"yea, so Im sorry or whatever for thinking you looked like food. But you kind of did look like youd fit in my mouth." She rolled her firey eyes " Ceylon, can I go back to hunting now?"

After landing and more apologies from Ceylon, Makaria decided to visit their den. And after some rest, food, and relaxing in some of the more comfortable rooms, she has left to continue on her journey.

Makaria found herself flying into the outskirts of plagueland territory, where she was greeted by a peculiar Guardian who called themselves "Oracle". The strange dragon lead her to an inn nearby, where she was introduced to another fae by the name of Kalah. The silver fae took an instant liking to Makaria, complimenting her beauty and marveling over the shade of her wings.

After spending some time sharing a friendly den with Kalah and resting her wings, Makaria filled her belly with warm food at the inn one final time before bidding the clan farewell and resuming her travel.

The fortresses of ends was a cold and unwelcoming venue. The clan that resided in that sector made it even less so. “It’s a fae get it!” A group of hatchlings were rushing toward her in a small mob. Luckily for her because they were still rather young and small so staying out of reach of those snapping jaws was easy enough to do. Luckily they were still to young to know how to fly. The hatchlings giggled as they took turns snapping at her feet. “Hey now what is going on over here? An odd looking Gaoler with orca pinstripes called out “Cut that out, leave that poorFae alone, go on shoo before I tell your parents.” The hatchlings left with a disappointed aww and went off to find someone else to annoy. “You are a traveler aren’t you?? My name is Manten I too used to travel all over, I should warn you this clan does not welcome faes for some reason. At least they stopped sacrificing them. Oh wait I didn’t mean to scare you. Look come in from the cold and let’s talk of travels now one will bother you if you are with me

Makaria was exhausted. Surely a relaxing vacation on the beach would be fun! But just as she arrived at the water’s edge, she was shoved aside by a fierce-looking pair of Mirrors.
“Look out!” they shouted, barreling into the shallows, where a massive Mantarune had surfaced!
Makaria flew backwards as fast as she could, frills stiff with fright.
“Oh, dear,” a soft voice sighed. The sweet monotone of another Fae was like music to her ears. “It’s just the warriors from the nearby clan. They do a good job of protecting us, but sometimes they can get a little rambunctious.”
Makaria turned to see a perky little blue Fae with green wings. “You look like you’ve had some adventures! Why don’t you come rest in my tide pools and tell me all about them.”
The Fae introduced herself as Kaimana. Makaria enjoyed the few days she spent with her, quietly exploring the pools and shady bays along the beach. The only problem was being wet all the time. She was afraid she might be catching a cold, so she thanked Kaimana profusely for her kindness and moved on.

Makaria was getting tired of all this traveling and unwelcoming clans. She decided she would head home to her home lair, but when she got there, everyone was frozen in time. Since she left at such a young age she really didn't care all that much, though she did find it very unnerving. Since she had nowhere to go she decided to stay at the Traveling Rest Hub. It was there that she met the Imperial, Lavendel, whose clan met the same fate as Makaria's. The Imperial was extremely distraught over the loss of her clan, so Makaria took it upon herself to cheer up the Imperial. Over time they built up a close friendship and Lavendel was able to somewhat recover from her grief.

While talking to some actively traveling dragons, one of them mentioned a clan that lived in a rainbow and was guarded by the sun. Makaria got very excited about that and decided that she and Lavendel were going to find that magical clan and make it their home. After saying goodbye to their friends at the Hub, the two dragons found themselves at the clan of Rainbow Waters. They were greeted by a massive shining imperial who's body heat evaporated the water around him. They were then sent to the clan's matriarch, Helga who welcomed them with open arms. Makaria was so happy to be part of a friendly clan (who liked Faes of all things!). The best part was, was that the inside of the lair was bone dry to accommodate all of the non-water-born dragons, and if you wanted to get to the surface all you had to do was activate an air tunnel to get to the surface. It was a dream come true to be part of a family that welcomed her despite her size (many of the clan members were very large Imperials and Guardians). After many months of living with the clan, Makaria decided it was time to start her adventure again. She was a traveler at heart, and now that she was refreshed and had a clan to call her home, she was ready to start on her next adventure.

A clan on the border of Plague and Shadow territory was where Makaria found herself next. She was pleasantly surprised by how nice the clan really was, and how wonderful the inn was - she even met a few travellers there already. The dragon leading her to the inn apologized for the mess, due to the fact that two Wildclaws (and previously a Snapper) recently went through the clan and caused trouble, but Makaria didn't mind too much. This clan was a decent spot for her to rest her wings until she decided to head off again the next morning, but was given a pair of wing decorations to take with her.

The next inn that Makaria visited was also quite wonderful, with comfortable rooms and a lovely meadow behind it. She spent most of her time there, soaking in the sun and pleasant breezes. More than once she fell asleep there in the open air, and she had lovely dreams. Upon waking, she could have sworn she saw fairies - but they were always gone before she could get a proper look.

She was tempted to stay for months and months, lazing in the sun, and her hosts were happy to let her, but Makaria also knew that she wanted adventure; she could admit to herself that she had enjoyed these past two stops so much because of what had come before. So, somewhat reluctantly, she continued her journey.

It was a long, hard trek through Dragonhome before she approached the Cairnstone Rest, where many clans are rumored to have their homes. When she saw a black mirror dragon napping in the sun, her first reflex was to flutter away; her experience with mirrors hadn't always been good. But the dragon only opened one of his many eyes and said:
"Oh, don't worry, I don't bite, at least not fellow dragons! In fact, my clan's patriarch is a fae, why don't you come and meet him?"
Somewhat reassured, but still wary, he followed the dragon, who introduced himself as Jael, into a cave of greyish rock. She was surprised by the amount of critters of all kinds and sizes walking, crawling, climbing and fluttering around, or swimming in the stream crossing the cave. And he did get to meet the patriarch, Krawald, who invited her to take advantage of the cave's spring to wash of the dust from her travel and to stay as long as she wanted.
Over the next weeks, Jael showed her around, both in the branching paths of the cavern and outside. Strangely, she found a liking to the mirror and they ended up mating and raising a clutch of hatchlings together. But once they were grown, she got restless again and decided to resume her journey.

Makaria found herself deep in the jungles of Everbloom Gardens where she gotten herself quite lost. She met Seaking who was patrolling the area at the time. At first he was reluctant to taking in the Fae due to his strict orders by his superiors to not let anyone from the outside in but quickly caved once puppy eyes were brought out. For a good while Makaria hid in Seaking's cave where the two talked to each other about their experiences. However when the topic of Seaking's clanmates where bright up, Seaking would beat around the bush, saying

"It-its best if you don't know"

Despite this secret the relationship between the two dragon continued to blossom, resulting in the birth of five Fae hatchlings. Shortly after, Makaria began preparing her things to leave, having grown restless staying in one place for so long. Seeking noticed this and not wanting to lose his only true friend, asked Makaria if he could accompany her. She accepted, but only if her children are in a safe place as they can't come with their parents. So after sneaking the little ones into Palomba's nursery they flew off into the night.

Makaria’s crests drooped in disappointment as the Fae glanced around the Weary Talons inn. He wasn’t here.

She had told him to meet her here, at this inn... where was he? Where?

The receptionist, a cheerful-looking Snapper, smiled at her. “Would you like anything, traveler?” she asked, gesturing with her talons.

The Snapper sounded quite joyful, although it was hard to tell—as a Fae, Makaria had trouble reading the facial expressions and voice inflections of non-Fae. “I... suppose,” Makaria started slowly, “that you seen a male Skydancer around here? Purple and black with blue wings and fur?”

The Snapper’s brow furrowed and her mouth curled downward... did frowning mean confusion? “A lot of dragons match that description, but no one like that’s passed through here in the past month.”

“Are you sure?” Makaria asked, her crests fluttering, snapping open and shut. “I told him to meet us here, at the Weary Talons.”

The receptionist drummed her claws on the desk. “Perhaps he went to a different inn. There are a lot of inns named the Weary Talons, you see.” She spread her claws. “Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do.”

Fact was fact. Makaria’s crests drooped, showing a grim finality the Fae typically didn’t feel. “Very well,” she said, “I suppose I’ll have to look for my love.” She left the inn, heart sinking. If only Seaking, her albatross, had found the right inn...

Makaria's yearning for adventure sent her on her way once more, and while she was disappointed that she hadn't been able to meet up with Seaking, she knew that there was something for her, just out of reach. She had to follow it.

She looked back at all of her past travels and realized that she had nearly gone around all of Sorneith. The only place that she had never been to, was the Wind Territory. She'd heard rumors from other dragons that the winds were far too strong for outsiders, but she knew all too well that not all rumors were true, especially in the Hub. She looked forward to exploring the world some more.
