“Irga. Are you slacking off again? We need treasure, Irga. Get up, dust off your wings, and help us work. A wildclaw who cannot provide for her clan is as useless and as unwanted as a silverfish spectre in a carnivore’s den; make yourself useful! Hunt, scavenge, gather, fight, anything! We don’t care how you earn your treasure.”
A shrill voice pierced through Irga’s dream as she sat up with a jolt.
“Mother, I am coming!”
Irga hurriedly gathered up her satchel, slipped on her shawl and headed outside. She could hunt, but the animals that resided in The Windswept Plateau seemed to have scattered and fled to areas farther from her home. Could she hunt there and bring the prey back in time? She could go to The Wandering Contagion, risking her life… Was it all worth it? Other than hunting, was there anything else she could do? As she trudged out of the lair, Irga’s hung her head. If she couldn’t bring back a chest full of treasure or enough prey for at least half a week… Wait, what was that?

A piece of white parchment drifted down from the sky, slowly descending before Irga’s eyes. Her pupils followed the strange note, and as it fell downwards she caught it.
“Coliseum event; slay monsters, get wares, items, treasure-filled chests, and more! Sign up now for free!”
A smile spread on her face.
“Perhaps…”
Silky webwing feathers floated down to the ground. Strangler vines untangled from their roots. Mantles were scattered across the grounds of the bamboo falls. Onyx Crayfish shells were discarded, unicorn dust was sprinkled across the Mire. Before she knew it, she would be able to take on stronger monsters easily. As she fought on, the pile of loot and defeated monsters behind her grew larger and larger; yet, she seemed to be missing something. Despite her parents being satisfied with her work, she couldn’t bring herself to care. All of her siblings were exalted. Her teammates, though close, still couldn’t fill in the strange emptiness in her heart. Something was missing.

Irga woke with a jolt, panting. Was that… All a dream? Looking up, her eyes met Anaisia’s.
“Did you have a nightmare again? You okay there? Should I pour you something warm to drink?”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
So… It was all a dream. A world without Anaisia… Irga couldn’t seem to imagine or remember how it would feel.
