B I O G R A P H Y
______ A softhearted Spiral with a very outgoing temperament, Sunstream can oftentimes be found roaming about the Wandering Contagion, utilizing his proficiency in metalworking to aid the underdeveloped clans in the area. Bonding with the dragons of the Defiled Sanctuary over their mutual interest in helping those who cannot help themselves, Sunstream decided to join their clan in hopes of increasing the amount of change he could bring about to the Scarred Wasteland. Setting up shop in a little alcove near the top of the gorge, when he’s not out and about helping underprivileged dragons, than you’ll be sure to find him here, working on his machines.
______ Having grown up as an orphan within the squalid, disease-ridden slums of the Hewn City, a dilapidated landscape of shattered structures cast in a perpetual state of darkness, Sunstream, with his dirt-covered face and gauntly frame, occupied his time by tinkering with the various tools and run-down machinery he came across within the crumbling buildings. Using the scrap metal from the broken machines, Sunstream busied himself with crafting simple little trinkets from the pieces; ranging from plain iron rings to large metal sculptures. Creating and selling his pieces on the market, Sunstream used the funds he earned to help support himself and the other starving dragons of the slums; carefully balancing the rations of food between all dragons and making sure that the young and elderly had been given their shares first. For weeks on end the young dragon would busy himself with work, intent on creating a steady flow of cash to help support the dragons living in the city. Having just recently returned home after a particularly grueling 12 hour shift of work, the young Spiral numbly trudges past the entrance to his dingy little hovel; dragging himself toward the dirty moth-eaten blanket in the corner of his den for some much needed rest. Almost as soon as his head hit the cloth the golden dragon was already falling into a deep slumber, completely unaware of the piercing pair of emerald green avian eyes staring at him from afar.
______ Within the deepest recesses of the Hewn City, an aged Imperial dragon lies upon the cracked stone tiles of an abandoned watchtower, ears pricking forward in interest as he takes in the sounds of lighthearted chatter filtering in through the window of his den, a soft smile gracing his features. Certainly a far cry better than listening to the sorrowful wails of famished dragons on the cusp of death, one can surely agree, no? Turning his head to the sound of beating wings, the Imperial gives a courteous nod to the raven flying in through the cracked roof, who lands on his shoulder and caws at him expectantly. Thanking the bird for helping him with his request, the grey scaled dragon hands the avian a millet branch in return; watching in amusement as it snatches up the branch and bolts out of the room, nearly banging its head on the windowsill for its troubles. Heaving a breathy laugh at his feathered friends antics, the wiry Imperial slowly gets to his paws and begins trotting out of his den, running the directions given to him by the bird through his mind.
______ As the gloomy black sky lightens to a melancholic grey, the closest thing to sunlight this abandoned city will ever have, Sunstream drowsily unfurls himself from his worn old blanket, sleepily rubbing his eyes as he hobbles out the door. Tired though he may be, there is still a lot of unfinished work to be done today! As he makes his way through the filthy back alleys of the city, currently preoccupied with getting the little bits of dust and grime out of his eyes, the young dragon fails to take notice of the Imperial dragon heading his way. Mumbling in annoyance about wretched little dust particles and how they contribute nothing to the world, the oblivious Spiral lets out a surprised yelp as he suddenly collides with a wall of solid steel scales. Tumbling to the ground in a mess of golden limbs, the young dragon begins apologizing profusely to the stranger he just rammed into, only to be cut off mid rant by an outstretched paw offering to help him up. Grasping the tiny gold paw in his own, the stranger effortlessly heaves the Spiral up off of the floor, apologizing for his own inattentiveness during the process. After giving the Spiral a few minutes to regain his bearings, the stranger introduces himself as Ashenfall, and says that it must have been luck that brought the two of them crashing into each other, seeing as how he was already wandering around in search of the Spiral to begin with. Seeing the look of wary confusion painted across the young dragon’s face, Ashenfall explains that he’s taken notice of the happy, contented atmosphere that had recently befallen the city as a result of the Spirals selfless actions, and only wishes to offer him the same kindness that he so freely bestows upon others. Telling the now curious Spiral about the time he used to work as a mechanic on the Lightning Farm way back in his younger days, Ashenfall offers to tutor Sunstream in the art of metalworking, so that perhaps one day he can go on to craft bigger and better things that he might use to further help his people. After asking if there was a catch to this offer, to which Ashenfall responded that his only requirement was for Sunstream to truly be willing to learn from him, the young Spiral timidly agrees to become the old Imperials apprentice. Shaking hands with Sunstream to seal the deal, Ashenfall let’s out a delighted little rumble as he turns around and leads the younger dragon back in the direction of his den, eager to show him all that he has to offer.A very stern perfectionist when it comes to the matters of his trade, the very first thing Ashenfall ever taught Sunstream was that anything short of exemplary was inadequate. From the basics of welding to the complicated process of building and repairing machinery; there was nothing that Ashenfall didn’t teach his young pupil! Over the course of a few years, the two dragons worked tirelessly on repairing and rebuilding the worst of the city; their unwavering pride in their work and their sheer determination to follow things through motivating some of the other denizens of the city to help out too! As the light of the morning sun breaches through the clouds and the cheerful banter of dragons fills the air, Ashenfall thinks to himself that never before has he seen the city this lively. Life here seems to be going so well in fact, that Ashenfall, upon gazing around at the newly revitalized city and the dragons living happily within it, comes to the realization that his little pupil doesn’t need him anymore. Breaking the news to Sunstream that he was dropping him as his pupil, Ashenfall asks the young dragon what he plans on doing now that the Hewn City had developed its own self-sustaining economy (courtesy of the traders and merchants who set up shop here after the revitalization). The young dragon shyly looks down and shuffles his feet, saying that he had felt no greater sense of purpose than when he was helping those in need, and tells Ashenfall that he had been thinking about journeying to the Scarred Wasteland, a place filled to the brim with feral, sickly, and starving clans, in the hopes of helping the dragons that live there. Gazing at his former pupil with a warm fondness in his eyes, Ashenfall affectionately rubs his muzzle against Sunstream’s and wishes him the best of luck on his travels, promising to take care of the Hewn City while he’s gone.
