This dragon has set out on a journey through Sornieth during Brightshine Jubilee '19 from Sunday, June 23 'til June 30. It is one of many that wants to visit lairs and clans, hoping to receive lore before being sent back to their home after the adventure is complete. Even years later they will be able to look back at this time by going through the poetry, prose and art they received, as well as all the encounters, adventure, new friends and enemies they encountered.

Please, keep in mind...
not to purposely edit or delete lore made by other users
not to breed or exalt this dragon while traveling

to send this dragon off to the next designation after 1 day
to return this dragon to its owner divitineo
as agreed to the rules of the event.

This is the a list of destination lairs for Tellan to keep track of his journey.
Let's get started, shall we?xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxTemplate made by Juri01

Day 1

Scatterspark Outpost
Light
The first day of Brightshine Jubilee is always the most energetic one in Scatterspark Outpost, and this year is no exception. The marketplace is adorned with banners and strings of lamps, bright even in midday, and music rings out here and there, both from radios and singing dragons. There's so much to see and so many interesting dragons to talk to, but Tellan's attention is drawn first to a large banner near the inn:

Welcome Traveling Archaeologists!

21216466.png

"Ah, marvelous! Our first visitor!" A shimmering golden coatl waves Tellan over, scales flashing in the sun. "Come, come! You must be Tellan! Welcome to our humble town. My name's Remy, I'm the liason for matters of Light here in the outpost. I'll be your guide on your visit here today." He clasps Tellan's hand in both of his, in a welcoming if unorthodox handshake. "Well! What would you like to see first? I suppose you must be interested in our library and our collection of artifacts? But really, you absolutely cannot come into town during our festival and not take part in the celebrations!"

What a chattery dragon! Without waiting for confirmation, he leads Tellan back toward the center of town, weaving between the reveling dragons in the crowd. Fortunately, his chatter slows down as they tour the stalls, allowing Tellan time to get a word in edgewise. Remy introduces the visitor to nearly every dragon they encounter, telling him about many of the locally-crafted wares. When they get to the book seller, Remy puffs with pride as he selects a book from the display.

"Look at this, my dear, and tell me what you think!" Tellan flips through the pages, filled with neat black print and decorated with elaborate scrollwork and colorful illuminations. Remy beams, smile as bright as the sun. "Would you believe I did that? Oh yes, I'm not simply a tour guide, I am an artist! I do illuminations just like this, at the printworks over there."

"Now, why don't you tell me about yourself?" Remy plies the Wind dragon with pastries and coffee as they walk around the settlement, asking him questions and responding to his stories with genuine interest.

"A wanderer? How interesting! What's your favorite thing that you've seen?"

"A Nature clan! I hear that the Behemoth is as big as the Hewn City! Is it true?"

Eventually, they make their way to the library, ostensibly the entire point of this visit for Tellan. Though it's not nearly the size of libraries that can be found in the heart of Light's biggest enclaves, it's just as beautiful, with stained glass windows and smooth stone walls. One small wing of the building is dedicated to fossils, rare stones, and historical artifacts, many unearthed by Scatterspark's citizens, and others traded for or purchased. It's not the largest collection in Sornieth by far, but Remy assures Tellan that it will only continue to grow. There are also shelves of rare historical texts and scrolls, which Tellan is invited to peruse at his leisure, provided he wash his paws first and handles them carefully.

At the end of the day, Remy escorts him back to the Merry Marzal for a drink. "Well, it was marvelous meeting you, Tellan! I hope you've enjoyed your time here. You're welcome to stay the night here, no fee. A couple of our own neighbors are journeying this week as well, you know, and we extend you the same courtesy we hope they're receiving." He leaves Tellan with a friendly kiss on the cheek and a handsome caramel-colored leatherbound journal. "Please, visit us again any time!"

Tellan opens the journal, and finds his name written on the front page in beautiful, gilded calligraphy. The rest of the pages are blank, awaiting the stories of his journey.

Day 2
Sol Auri
Light

First there where just a few seperate paving stones appearing lost in the wide meadow, but soon Tellan found a small path.
He was still in the Sunbeam Ruins, actually planning to leave to the Tangeled Wood, but he was courious where those stones would lead him.
After some time, he saw a small village in the distance, disappointed. Just a few, old buildings, not really catching his interest. Abandoned, as he assumed.
But soon he was proven wrong.
"I am so happy to meet you!" A pink-winged mirror - she looked happy indeed - handed him a bunch of flowers, which he accepted confused.
It was hard for him understanding the girl. Sure, he could speak and understand traditional draconic... but this Mirror talked so fast, he just couldn't follow her words.
"...Sorry.", he mumbled, clearing his throat. "I... Thank you?" He pointed on the flowers, feeling kind of helpless.
"Ohhh~" She made a noise as if she'd seen something cute - what confused Tellan just more. He felt kinda uncomfortable and really considered just walking away, hoping she wouldn't follow.
"I am sorry!", she answered slowly, pressing her claws together. "Do you understand me?"
He nodded, looking down to the flowers. "Uh... I am Tellan."
"Tellan! Come on, you're surely exhausted, you need some food? Do you eat meat? I tried to be a vegetarian once, but..."
Insecure he followed her, trying to understand at least some of the words, but soon he gave up.
They soon arrived at the village. What a weird place... so dreary, in comparison with the Scatterspark Outpost.
Buildings out of white stone, heavy, colorful fabrics instead of doors, a few banners they probably hung up for the festival - not really inviting, but he was too polite to leave.
Pressing the flowers against his body, he looked around, following the mirror, who was still talking nonsense.
The girl stopped just in front of an extraordinary small building. Just as high as the others, but narrow. The mirror probably wouldn't fit in there.
"Pavantis! Lopuh!"
The fabric was shuffeled aside and two Faes appeared in the doorframe.

Even if he tried - he really did - Tellan just couldn't understand what they were saying. Their expressions were monotonous, what made it impossible to even guess what the conversation was about.
The girl suddenly laughed, said something to the Faes and turned to leave.

It evolved into an awkward silence. The green dragon crossed his arms, looking up to Tellan. The girl next to him just stared up as monotone as the male.
It seemed to become a long day.

Flying in front of him, Tellan followed the Faes, almost stumbling over his own paws, trying to adapt to their speed.
Soon they left the village and the path. Every now and then one of the dragons turned around to him, silently observing him for a few seconds.

This really wasn't the adventure he dreamed of.
Learning about other cultures, meeting dragons, listening to their storys...
He almost missed the library, the marketplace... everything he saw yesterday.
His journey started so well and now he was following two Faes into the woods, not understanding a single word they said to each other.
He wasn't afraid, but highly uncomfortable. The flowers in his paws felt like a heavy weight, but he didn't dare to throw them away.

Suddenly the forest opened.
Pavantis and Lopuh flew to the middle of the free area and sank into the grass and looked at him.
The girl pointed next to her.
Slowly Tallan came closer, sitting down between the small dragons.
The green one said something, but the girl just shook her head, laying down, closing her eyes.
Putting the flowers aside, Tallan tilted his head, looking questionably at the male - he wasn't sure which name belonged to him.
"Pavantis?", he asked, hoping he did spell it right. The Fae just looked at him and then nodded once.
Tellan smiled, pointing on himself. "I am Tellan."

This species was so weird. No emotions, just a blank stare. It was really hard to deal with, and it really made him feel insecure and... foreign.
But when Pavantis nodded again, he couldn't avoid a shy smile.
Lying down in the grass after the Fae did too, he closed his eyes, listening to the wind, feeling strange, but in a good way.

The Faes didn't show him the excavation. Actually they didn't show him anything, just spending the time lying in the grass and listening to the wind. And Tallan didn't mind.
When they returned to the village - without the flowers - they surely weren't friends, but not strangers either.

Gathered up around the well, the clan celebrated the Brightshine Jubilee with some delicious food.
Not even twenty dragons lived here, but some of them did have interesting stories to tell - and a pair of older Coatls helped him translating.
In the end, it was a pleasant evening.

When the sun rose the next morning, he decided to continue his journey after a short night in one of the empty buildings.
Walking through the silent village, he was suddenly stopped by the two Faes, flying towards him.
Again they just stared at Tellan for some moments, then the girl - Lopuh - handed him a Necklace.
"For me?" He looked up. Pavantis nodded.
"Thank you!"
He put on the jewellery, smiling. "Do I... look good?"
The Faes stared at him and then turned to leave.

And Tellan did the same, feeling... good.
He was ready. For whatever was waiting for him out there.

Teardrop Citrine Necklace
Hor-divider-640.png
Tellan had decided to travel along the coastline, walking along the mighty river that divided the Lightweaver's domain from the Gladekeeper. He'd spent many a night beneath the stars, enjoying the peaceful quiet of the night beside a crackling campfire. And yet, despite all this, he felt a faint desire to rest in an actual bed, perhaps with a warm bath and a hot meal. After all, the river and it's leeches didn't quite match a brass tub with steaming water to wash the grime from his feathers! And so, with this in mind, he was quite relieved when he spotted a few homes along the riverbank. With a kick in his step, he darted down what he now knew to be a road in search of a place to stay for the night.

It wasn't a large port. In fact, it looked practically new. The houses were hardly broken in, the decor shiny and straight from a merchant's wagon. The road wasn't paved, yet for a dirt path, it was too smooth to be well worn. Even the few shops had new signs, and many seemed as if they were still growing accustomed to the influx of customers from the road and, definitely the biggest culprit, the new port. It was what was anchored there that caught Tellan's eyes, however.

No, it wasn't the ships. Yes, they were indeed impressive, likely meant for the high seas more so than the river, however large it may be. Locals called that river the Rath Do Kun, which they say means the River of Light. Perhaps the Nature drakes had another name for it. The ships, four in total, shined to a fine polish and even bearing gilded figureheads on a couple, were certainly not what caused him to freeze in his tracks.

It was the small group of Leviathans beside the ships, as if guarding them from trespassers as they rumbled to each other in a tongue he did not know. Judging by the smirks on their faces, they must be quite relaxed, if not simply content with their circumstances. Leviathans in a river, of all things, were something Tellan hadn't expected to try and comprehend on this venture. He rubbed his eyes, gawking as drakes who lived in the small port chuckled around him. Finally, someone spoke to him.

"Amazing, aren't they? The Leviathans of the Cardinal Captains, I mean." Tellan turned, startled by the sudden voice, only to find empty air over his head. He heard a quiet cough, and he looked down to see a Skydancer half his size smirking up at him. Those bright oranges and whites were a sharp contrast to those pale yellow eyes, and the Skydancer laughed at the shocked look on the Coatl's face.

"Sorry, didn't introduce myself, did I. I'm Lawrence. I'm the current lookout for the Kelpie's Cry. It's that one, there. With the Kelpie masthead that needs a new right hoof." Tellan glanced over the ship before nodding, still trying to comprehend the fact that Leviathans not only existed, but were apparently normal enough for the locals to find amusement in newcomers and their awe at the beasts. Lawrence wasn't done. "That one there, the Leviathan with the blue wing fins and the Plague eyes, guards the ship. Each of the Cardinals have a Leviathan, though we honestly don't know why they decided to show up. They just did, and honestly most of the crew are still getting used to nearly tipping over on the great blue when they find something to fight. They're pretty useful for river navigation, though." Tellan just nodded again, letting the Skydancer talk as he watched the Leviathan in question yawn, apparently quite bored with the conversation the others were trying to keep going.

"Say, are you one of those Traveling Archaeologists? Y'know, the ones that came out from that Pandora mess to check out the rest of Sornieth?" Tellan looked back down at the Skydancer, and smirked as he pulled out his journal to show off what he'd obtained from the first day of his adventure. Lawrence's smile grew at the sight, and Tellan swore the feathered puffball was about to explode with excitement. "You've got to tell the crew of your adventures! That Gleescale Sonaan would likely enjoy a break from storytelling for once. Maybe he'd even adopt some of those stories for the crew of the Blood Pearl!" He grabbed Tellan by the hand and practically dragged him into the local tavern, apparently called the Jolly Seadog.

That night was full of stories, many told by drakes of the sea who knew not how to spin a good yarn, others told by their new guest as he shares his adventure in the domain of the Lightweaver. Some poke fun at the necklace hanging around his neck, asking which of the fine ladies of his ventures gave him the gift. Those who asked where swiftly thumped upside the head by Captain Cambrie's tail for asking such a personal question. One story was told by a bright Nocturne, one who Tellan noticed was trying his best to not be caught glancing at who he had learned was the Cabin Boy of the Blood Pearl. The greatest story that night came from that Sonaan fellow, and Tellan wondered how a drake could make him see the great Rath Do Kun as it carved it's way through the cliffs. He swore as that Skydancer spoke that he could see the four ships as they approached the docks of a great city, listening to the hustle and bustle of merchants, peddlers, and nobles alike as they went about their daily business on the side closely connected to the Sundial Terrace and, strangely enough, he thought he could even see that great bridge shining brighter than the sun itself, the Sot Miirad. Sonaan explained it roughly meant Path of Light, and that the city called Dokun Brod was built around that bridge.

As the dragons quieted below, Tellan sat atop his mattress, ignoring the dust on his wings and the clothes weighing him down as he took quill in claw and began to write the stories he'd heard that night. He wrote it all down in his journal, for those four ships with their boisterous crews and their imposing Leviathan guards were a grander sight to him than the city the storyteller Sonaan spoke of. Perhaps, some other time, he could visit the great city Sot Miirad himself. For now, however, spending time with these motley crews would be more than enough for his journal.

He wondered if they'd take him with them to the next port. Surely one more day with these mirthful sailors wouldn't hurt, would it? He wanted to see how these Leviathans behaved when the ships set sail, and he wondered if they were nearly as happy go lucky when the docks weren't in sight.

Perhaps they'd take him for a spell. Let fate guide the lot of them to their next destination.

Besides, he wanted to make sure he got that story right.

The Third Day

Dear diary:
Oh me, oh my,
Another chapter in the Sunbeam Ruins!
Not the worst place by a far cry,
But it gets tiring, hearing the same tunes
Over and over again -
Those chimes and bells are hard-wired in my brain!

At least the weather's nice and warm,
And the denizens, they're quite nice, too.
With the few Coatls from the Beacon I've dormed
And listened to stories - hilarious through and through.

I've caught glimpse of a Gaoler.
I thought they were extinct?
I've rarely seen a dragon paler.
A specimen most distinct!

Either way, onwards I go to my next destination.
Trying to be clever in my notes for once
Is more than enough procrastination.

It's a blistering day, as it always is, in the Shifting Expanse. Tellan again felt soaked with grime, dust, and sand stuck to his feet and feathers. He saw relief in the distance, a large home surrounded by a courtyard. He flew low over to the home, landing before the gates. It was the first place he'd seen in a while and he feels needy, knocking on the gates, attracting a Ridgeback in silver armor.
52632347.png

He's quick to throw open the gates for him, "A traveler? What are you doing so far away from your home of the tempests, little one?" Tellan gives a gentle sigh, happy to hear someone else's voice.

"Just need a place to rest, sir, I'm very tired. I've been flying all day. Might I stay here the day?" His voice was coarse, hurting. The Ridgeback drew him under his wing and lead him inside the house, to a bed, gesturing him to lie down.

"Rest here as long as you need, traveler. We'll make sure you continue your journey." Were the last words Tellan heard as his mind clicked off, asleep in an instant.

He woke again to the smell of seafood cooked, blinking his weary eyes open, he rose to sit. A plate sits beside him on a coffee table, a glass of water beside it. He took in the food quickly, the water as well, then notices the little door that he didn't enter through, and upon looking inside, found a bathroom. He took a long bath, soothing his blistered skin underneath his feathers.

Leaving his given room he enters a living room with a pentent of people. Magnus goes to him, smiling down at him gently, "You slept a long while traveler, come, take a seat." And take a seat he did, chattering happily with these welcoming warriors. One even plopped a brandished helmet on his head!

Though he knew he had to go. That evening he bid them goodbye, promising to come visit again, one day. And they would welcome him with more than enough familial love to make him feel at home again in such a desolate place.

"What did you do!?" Tellan shrieked, clapping his paws to his head. Something was pushing through the skin on his head, stretching and curling.

"Oh! Oh dear. That wasn't supposed to happen..." Dusk swallowed hard, as if that would dislodge the lump of shock and guilt in her throat, and quickly flipped through her grimoire.

"YOU THINK?" Oh, dear sweet Windsinger, they just kept growing. He rubbed his claws over the curls, frowning harder when he felt thick ridges catch their sharp tips. How big were they going to get? He could barely keep his head held up as it was. "You gave me HORNS!"

"I didn't mean to do it!" she yelped. "It was a spell to help you in your travels--it was supposed to give you the strength of a Rambra!"

He dragged his paws over his face. "Haven't you ever heard someone use that phrase before? 'The strength of a Rambra' doesn't have anything to do with physical endurance. It refers to their ability to plow through obstacles headfirst!"

"I--I'm sure there's something in here that will counteract it. I just have to find it."

"Ugh! Look quicker, would you?" Tellan dropped to all fours to help himself support the unwieldy green spirals. Coatl necks weren't designed for this. Snappers could probably grow them just fine--they had short, thick necks with plenty of muscle, and the weight to put behind an attack performed with them--but him? Not in the least. "Or get me a hacksaw. I don't care which."

"I'm so sorry. I really am."

"It's okay. You didn't know. I'm just--this really isn't comfortable. I've got a splitting headache."

"I can imagine that." She bent closer to her book then, rubbing her chin with a thumbclaw. "How do you feel about withering magic? Or-- oh! Oh, I've got something. I do think so."

"What is it?"

She turned and began to gather supplies from her shelves. Dried leaf buds in a variety of shapes, dead beetle larvae, an empty metal bottle with north wind written on an aged label, a few strips of withered velvet, and a grotesque grayish-purple goo in a glass cube. "Localized seasonal changes. It's meant for helping dragons facing dangerous or ruinous weather to hurry along a vital harvest."

"I don't understand."

"Creatures shed their antlers in late winter. I will cast this on your head and those should drop right off."

He held a paw up and backed away. "Don't you dare."

"What? Why not? It's brilliant."

"These aren't antlers. They're horns." Tellan knocked on them with his knuckles, then winced. Bad idea. Vibrated the sore spots and made his head hurt more. "Horns don't shed."

"Oh."

"Yes."

They stared at each other for a long, long moment before Dusk set the items down, closed the book, and cleared her throat. "I'll go see about that hacksaw."

Hor-divider-640.png

His head itches.

He expected to return home to the Viridian Labyrinth after his stop in Dragonhome, but after the... incident with Dusk, he decided to keep moving for a little longer.

Now, it’s been days, but he’s still scratching at the broken base of where those blasted horns grew. The hacksaw took care of them- if rather painfully- and he can lift his head again, but dear gods does it itch. Even mid flight he finds himself reaching up to scratch at the remaining fragments of horn attached to his skull.

Now he’s coasting over the Shifting Expanse, but doesn’t want to stop. He couldn’t take the lack of water last time.

But the air is warming. He can feel it, even this high over the ground- it must mean he’s approaching the Ashfall Waste. He doesn’t know if there’ll be much more water there than in the desert, but it’ll be a new place, somewhere he hasn’t been before. He might as well drop in.

He watches the Shifting Expanse’s sand turn to ash and stone below him. He’s not firmly within the Ashfall Waste for a very long time before he spots a dragon’s lair.

He slows and circles over the caldera for a time, caught on how to approach them. The decision is made for him when a Skydancer appears and flies up to meet him.

They circle each other for a moment before the Skydancer looks him in the eye and starts dropping back down to the ground. Tellan hesitates for only a moment before following.

“I’m Tellan,” he blurts out the moment his feet hit the ground. “I’ve been traveling for a long time. Can I stay here for awhile?”

He really didn’t mean to be so blunt about it. He supposes he’s more tired than he thought.

The Skydancer’s expression turns amused. “Of course. I am Charin. Come- we’ll get you settled down for a rest.”

With that, she turns and leaps into the caldera, Tellan on her heels. There’s a number of other dragons around, sitting around in the shade at the edge of the caldera and stretched out to sun themselves alike. A few lift their heads to blink at Tellan, but most take very little notice.

Before doing anything else, Charin rounds on him. The Skydancer is smaller than him, but suddenly she has such an air of authority about her that it makes Tellan instinctively dip his head. “You must swear to us you come with no ill intentions. We will take your word, and not question, but remember: betrayal is the highest of offences, and will be remembered.”

Tellan is momentarily surprised, but understands the need. Every clan has to defend itself.

He wonders if this one even has the firepower (ha) to back up their warning, should he wish harm upon them. Then he notices that many of the dragons seemingly just lounging around have their eyes slitted and trained on him, and underneath scales and feathers their muscles are tense. It’s nearly unnoticeable. If Tellan hadn’t been looking for it, he wouldn’t have seen.

They can defend themselves.

But none of this matters, because Tellan does not want to fight them. “I come with no ill intentions,” he says, repeating Charin’s words. “I will not betray you.”

The Skydancer nods in assent, before turning again and leading Tellan to a tunnel dug into the wall of the caldera. It drops steeply, but doesn’t go on for long before opening into a relatively spacious den. There are the makings of nests along the edges, but it’s empty.

“This is the travelers’ den. Make yourself at home.”

He glances once more at Charin, and does so. He picks a nest on the far end of the den, starts the nudge it around to his liking, and dumps everything he’s carrying beside it.

And oh, does that feel better. Even just free of the weight of his traveling bags, he feels so much lighter.

His head still itches, though.

Absently, he brings one paw up to rub at his head. Rubbing turns into scratching, and he only flinches when a shock touches him and he realizes he’s scratched himself with his own claws.

He pulls his paw away from his head. It comes away wet, but he just stares at the droplets of blood.

“Are you okay?”

Tellan hadn’t even realized Charin was still in the room. He swings his head around to look at her: head tipped and mildly worried expression on her face.

“Oh- yes, just, cut myself. Head’s been itching lately-” he doesn’t want to say why- “but I’m fine, I'm fine.”

Charin hums. “You sure?”

“Oh, yes.”

“You don’t want it looked at?”

“No, no it’s-” Tellan cuts himself off, and after a momentary pause amends his statement. “Actually, do you have anyone here who knows transmutation magic?”

Charin blinks. “Well, yes, but why do you need transmutation magic?”

Tellan shakes his head. “I’ll explain to them. It’s a... weird story.”

“Well. Okay, come, I’ll introduce you to Aezven.”

/////

The Nocturne is, to say the very least, not pleased when Tellan explains what Dusk did.

“And you say- you knifed them off with a hacksaw? Do you know how much damage that could have done to your skull?”

“I- yeah, I did, but really there wasn’t another way. I couldn’t even lift my head!” Tellan says, burning in embarrassment. Aezven sighs, flipping through his own grimoire.

“Well. There is nothing I can do to remove them completely-” Tellan won’t admit it later, but even he could hear the strangled sound leave his throat- “but I can heal what’s left. You are fortunate that there was no permanent bone injury.”

Aezven gestures to table before him, where there’s a small chalk circle drawn. There’s some leaves laid around it, but nothing Tellan would know what to do with.

Tellan gently rests his head in the center of the circle. Aezven parts the feathers of Tellan’s crest and rests his paws on the sides of his head, where the horns grew. He mutters some words in a language Tellan doesn’t recognize, and he can feel his breath snatched away.

He’d gotten so used to the itching he didn’t realize it was so bad until it was gone. And gone it is- when Aezven releases him, Tellan gingerly touches the place where the horns were.

The sharp fragments are gone, leaving only two smooth, round ridges on either side of his head. They’re barely noticeable under his crest.

“Oh, thank you,” he sighs. “Thank you so much.”

Aezven sits back on his haunches, looking pleased. “Of course. Glad I could help.”
