He came into the world unnaturally cold and quiet. Had he not immediately began crawling toward his mother, one would be forgiven for assuming he was stillborn. His sister and mother lent him warmth as the cards were drawn. His was the first of his clutch and his baptism cast a slight shadow over the otherwise joyous ceremony. The devil upright was far from a good omen.

While beloved, Iblis was raised with a marked sense of detachment. He was taught to be wary of attachments, impulses, and obsessions. When he came of age, his parents thought it best to send him to a temple in wind territory where he began a simple life of prayer, meditation, and physical labor.

As he matured, Iblis became the primary caretaker of the monastery's flora and a superb potion brewer. Those with ailments went to him to ease their pain before all others, as Iblis perfected the art of brewing potions to numb and sedate.

For all the care taken to raise him, Iblis nonetheless harbored deep fear and anxiety. He lived with the suffocating belief that should his strict discipline falter in any way, it would lead to disaster. Terrified of the potential and danger within him, Iblis would retreat and anesthetize himself in moments of temptation and weakness.
