Children of the brawlers learn how to use their teeth and claws to maim before they even fly. Most are brutal, vicious and won’t hesitate to rip the throat out of anyone who stands in their way. It’s no wonder that they lead solitary lives.

Even the precious few who choose to turn their backs on this ruthlessness and lonely existence still struggle with the bloodthirst.

Only the strong survive. One cannot deny what lies in their nature.

War is:

1. hell. Maybe worse. Durandal has borne witness to nearly a dozen of them, escaping death only by the skin of his teeth. If there's a place for the wicked after death, filled with murderers and traitors and sinners of the worse sort, he'd take that over war any day.

War kills more innocents than any other catastrophe ever will.

2. chaos. Blood and ichor, brother killing brother, dying scream after dying scream. You can die a hundred ways on a battlefield and a thousand after-- if you survive, there's no telling that you won't succumb to the infection. And the scars stay, whether you want them to or not.

Even the memories.

3. unnecessary. It's senseless. Durandal has seen entire armies laid to waste, fields of the dead and dying, graves filled with countless corpses. There's no better way to hammer home the message that life is cheap than standing at the lip of a hole filled with the limp, lifeless bodies of a hundred dragons.

War is all of these things and more.

But damn the Plaguebringer if he doesn't revel in it anyway.
