Robin

"Terrible, I'm terrible. I need to get better to stop thinking this way."
yPL7vcO.gif He's said to be the less lucky sibling, even though he was a completely healthy newborn. Robin, when he was younger, was teased for being the lesser twin and was compared to his sister. Was, but he fought the kid who said that.

After that fight was over, nobody ever said something like that to him in front of his face. He gained many 'friends', but is aware he is still constantly talked behind his back. Robin doesn't confront them though, because he's better than that, or whatever he tells himself so he can rest well at night.

Zephyr is his unofficial son which he saved when the Caravan was travelling through the Southern Icefield. Robin is particularly fond of the little mirror, sometimes spoiling him with toys and teaching him how to spar.

He surprisingly rubs off as a little cold to his sister. Robin loves her but feels a little resentment. As much as he tries to reassure himself that he'd never do anything to his own twin, there are times when he scares himself when a violent thought runs through his head. It's worse when it lingers on for too long. He gives off a dignified appearance, but he's afraid of becoming inhumane and has no idea what he truly is behind his persona.

Nowadays, Robin joined the caravan with Raiamond. He's Rai's self-proclaimed bodyguard, and is never away without any weapon of sorts.

His status and biological relation with her is a good alibi for an accident, now that he thinks about it.

"You still haven't told me what you wanted to speak to me about..." Robin's nagging echoed across the valley, almost as loud as the whistling breeze. He was close to tying himself into knots, he was so high-strung, his annoyance only rising as Rai led him seemingly aimlessly.

He received no answer to his plight, only a momentary glance, as Rai began to drag him to quicken his pace, seizing his wing in her claws with a gentle, yet firm hold.

He grumbled, though he allowed the action, willing to at least entertain her for a few moments more.

He tilted his head and called, "Rai, you're starting to worry me.... why haven't you said anything?" He had to raise his voice to speak over the growing winds, which he suspected were at least partially linked to his Wind-gifted sibling's mood at the moment.

Rai paused, coiling up a bit as she stared out at the sea.

"Wind's pretty strong today, huh?"

A grin quirked at her features as she chirped, turning to face Robin.

"Reminds me of that time when we were hatchlings... right on a hill just like this one. The wind was blowing harder than ever before... and it nearly knocked you off the cliff!"

She laughed slightly, voice filled with mirth. The mist that perpetually surrounded her eyes seemed to intensify, swirling about in the breeze.

Robin found himself frowning, avoiding her gaze as he muttered, "Yeah... what about it?"

The Wheel looked over the cliff, her wings catching the breeze as she trilled, "Good memories." She tilted her head, the star-shaped decor around her horns and neck chiming softly as the charms shifted. "Remember when I saved you? When your wings were too small to catch the wind? The first time I used my powers... was to help you."

Robin's wings folded tightly against his sides, and he scowled, glancing over the edge. His thoughts as stormy as the gale above, he hissed, "Is that really what you came here to talk to me about? After all this time, you really think that day was funny?"

Rai winced, fidgeting under his glare. "I never said it was."

"You laughed," came the growling response.

The Wheel of Fortune's jubilant mood crumbled entirely, and she sighed. "Alright... you got me." She shrugged, forcing a smile. "You've been distant, lately, little bro. The Caravan's worried about you." She rested a claw on his shoulder, her bright eyes misty. "I'm worried about you."

Robin's eyes flared, and before he knew what he was doing, he reacted, slashing at Rai's arm in a moment of impulsive fury. He leapt back, coiling and uncoiling like an aggressive snake.

Rai squeaked, clutching at her arm. Her eyes widened as she noticed the warm wetness forming under her claw, and she winced, seeing the bloody slashes. She frowned, staring at him. "Robin..."

A tremulous shudder hit him, his eyes sparking with a fervent energy for just a moment, just long enough to make his twin wince.

The violent energy reached a climax, and the "lesser" sibling let out a furious cry. "No matter what I do... you're always better than me!" He dove at her, swiping madly at her once again. "You're the Wheel of Fortune. You're the best of us!"

The fog around Rai's eyes parted in shock, revealing her trembling pupils, and she spoke, her voice echoing around him like the howling winds. She fought to keep her voice from breaking as she swerved around him, whispering a spell on the wind before she let out a thunderous roar.

"That's enough!"

A shockwave of pure wind energy burst from her maw, spiraling about and pushing Robin closer to her. He scowled deeply, though his eyes glowed with shock, and his anger seemed to fade, replaced with a dogmatic sort of irritation. Rai's claws found purchase in his shoulders, and she held him there, gazes locked, until he stopped struggling.

"Talk to me, brother," she whispered. Her voice finally cracked. "Please..."

Robin stared through her, gaze hollow, yet unrelenting. He eventually broke eye contact, looking down and muttering, "It's nothing..." He lowered his head, wriggling free from her grasp. "It's not like my problems are important as yours, anyway."

He slunk away, wings lightly buffeted by the wind's futile attempt to push him closer. He just slipped away, his eyes downcast, his gait shaky and unsure. Rai almost dared to reach out to him... but she found herself pausing, settling to just... watch him go.

"Brother..."

Her words fell on deaf ears; her own twin failed to heed her call. She kept staring at the path he'd taken, down the old, nostalgic hill, sadness swirling in her heart. As still as if caught in a trance, the lucky Spiral remained, motionless, taken aback by her sibling's rash actions.

Such anger... such... sadness...

It wasn't until the sky had grown dark, and pale orange lanterns glowed in the corner of her eye that she moved, as if rooted to the ground. Stupor broken, she shook her head and began to make her way back to the Caravan, unsure if her twin was okay... if he needed her.

She found herself bitterly chuckling; he'd needed her, quite obviously, for years now. For years, his pleas fell on deaf ears, as hers did today. For years, he was likely tormented; something about the way he referred to himself as being "lesser" seemed almost rehearsed, an echo of countless insults directed at him, whether whispered by so-called friends or laughed aloud to his face.

Regardless, Rai knew, Robin was at the end of his rope, on the last straw. Her arm ached, though not as painfully as her heart, and her once bright eyes dimmed, the ethereal fog parting, thinning, until her normal eyes shimmered with tears, condensed magic pooling in the corners of her large eyes.

Reality had caught up to her.

For once, her fabled luck had failed her.

And now, there was something that she couldn't fix.
