Children of the alchemist and the assassin will often find that their parents are too distant to be anything more than solemn mentors. One parent, an alchemist absorbed in her work, and another, an assassin merely finding xeir legacy, will never be the role models their hatchlings want them to be.

Not that their parents don’t try to be as loving and as doting as possible, it’s just that, well, when there is a guild of assassins that operate in the shadowy corners of Sorineth out for the blood of both their parents, staying safe does seem be at the top of the list of priorities here.

It is an unkind existence. Unfortunately, it is also a necessary one.

As a hatchling, Nimve's curiosity is insatiable. As an adult, that hunger doesn't abate; her parents, one a well-travelled assassin and the other an experienced alchemist, soon find that they cannot answer all her questions.

Eventually, she sets off into the great unknown, keen to whet the appetite.

Nimve travels to great clans, vast kingdoms, ancient empires, and soaks up knowledge from their libraries and archives. She spends years on the road, paying for passage by telling stories and entertaining crowds, shunning willing company, wandering well-travelled roads alone. Soon, she finds that there are no questions that the most learned in all of Sorineth can answer.

So, she turns to the gods.
