Children of the alchemist and the assassin will often find that their parents are too distant to be anything more than solemn mentors. One parent, an alchemist absorbed in her work, and another, an assassin merely finding xeir legacy, will never be the role models their hatchlings want them to be.

Not that their parents don’t try to be as loving and as doting as possible, it’s just that, well, when there is a guild of assassins that operate in the shadowy corners of Sorineth out for the blood of both their parents, staying safe does seem be at the top of the list of priorities here.

It is an unkind existence. Unfortunately, it is also a necessary one.

Apart turns his back on the life his parents led. He refuses to flee from the assassins that hunt his family, refuses to bow to the fear that grips them all, refuses to be punished for the simple crime of being born.

So when he finally runs, it isn't away. It's towards.

The guild that one of his parents fled from is well-hidden. An assassins' guild worth their salt doesn't go about announcing themselves all over Sorineth, so it'll take time to track them down. Apart is young. He's got all the time in the world.

And while he's caught up in killing those hunting his family, he isn't aware of this: something watches him from the shadows... and waits.
