Old Home, Young Spirit
What happens when a volcano goes inactive? Obviously it does just that, stops spouting fire all over the place like a pimple on steroids, but what about the elemental magic it spouts out along with all the magma? It comes from the ground, deep beneath the world’s crust, but doesn’t it seem like the sort of place you’d find a spirit of some sort?
Unfortunately, most are disappointing in this manner. Most of them just end up overgrown, and in some cases overgrown by a jungle. A place once made of flames and death becoming a shelter for life of all sorts is quite ironic, no?
Well, either way, if any spirit were to inhabit a volcano, then find it going inactive, they’d likely just find a new place to live. They wouldn’t do something like, say, take a temporary physical form, hiding in the shadows with curious, fiery eyes to watch explorers venture into their caldera. They most certainly wouldn’t take the form of a Gaoler, of all things, and they definitely wouldn’t enjoy an actively-flourishing jungle where their beloved flames and magma used to be.
And why on earth would he attempt to communicate with travelers, appearing before them with a glowing fiery blue mane that rippled with red heat as well? He doesn’t even know standard draconic speech.
No sane spirit would try and talk with one of the opposing element either, but perhaps that could be put down to a mere fool’s tale. One to be ignored, along with the shimmering outline of sandy-yellow laced with blue lines, playing around with a rippling blue-and-red wisp. It couldn’t possibly be true.
Absolutely not.
