Meticulous Magician with an inability to sit still
“Welcome, traveller. Is there anything I can do for you? Are you here to speak to our clan leader?
You pause, thoughts flooding your mind. Perhaps you could ask about her abilities? Her clan’s history? Her intriguing familiar? One question. You had to choose, but only one. Then… You would have to depart and then return here again, after a long time. Thoughts flicker across your mind. Your eyes focus and refocus. You bite your lip.
“I would like to know about your past.”
“Hmm? My past? You’re a strange one. Nobody has ever asked about that.” Her blue eyes glitter as she begins to tell her tale.
“I was hatched in this lair, but my family moved to a different one far away; a cozy den somewhere in the Fishspine Reef. I haven’t been there for a long time, and I can’t remember much of it. I did learn some magic and spells from a dragon living nearby, though.” Seraphina lowers her head and slightly smiles as she looks into the distance.
“What became of your old home?”
“I was helping my family fish for our dinner one day, and it was my first time visiting that particular area in the Tsunami Flats. I can recall that I was extremely excited to fish for the first time, but my catch kept slipping away from my claws. I can’t sit still, you see, and my patience wasn’t the best then. I spent hours and hours trying to catch a single fish without avail. By the time I held a wriggling sardine triumphantly, the sun had already set, and I was alone. Days became weeks and weeks became a month, but they didn’t seem to return. Thankfully, there were creatures and saltwater plants growing around that I could live off of. I lost track of time eventually, but I didn’t spend much time alone there.”
“Then, how did you find your way here…?”
“Oh, I didn’t find my way here. Our clan leader, Madora, was kind enough to take me under her wing and allow me to join her clan and help me improve my magic capabilities. Every clan member seemed so happy and welcoming, even to this day, there hasn’t been a single argument that Madora wasn’t able to solve peacefully. It’s perfect here, isn’t it? You should stay for a bit more and visit the other clan members. I’m sure they would enjoy your company.”
You nod and thank Seraphina for her response. As you look back up to meet her eyes, her smiling image shimmers and disappears, but you could still hear her slight chuckles.
“Wait… That was just an illusion?”
“Of course. Did you really think I could sit still through all of that? I did mention that I am unable to sit still for long periods of time. I was in the process of collecting herbs and practising spells when you came in. I was never really here, you see. You should probably visit the others. They’re here, and they’d enjoy speaking to you.”
