Biography
As he gazed thoughtfully at the beautiful, twinkling horizon teeming with life, Cocoa sighed - but it was not a sigh of disappointment: rather, it was a sigh of contentment. He was appreciating the rare and natural beauty of his clan, a clan that he was grateful to serve.
For he was the alchemist of his clan, one that was nurturing and patient like the many before him. After all, it was in his clan’s very nature to care and to cultivate. He, along with his friend Elysia, who was a healer, were principal examples of that. Elysia nurtured life, while Cocoa cared for his potions with delicate expertise.
To Cocoa, alchemy was not only his innate gift, but his duty. How could he put it? It was something that he was simply… born to be. After he had saved his mate Chestnut, he had finally realized the purpose in his life: to be an alchemist, crafting potions and saving others.
The time put in the careful tweaking and brewing of his potions and poultices did not matter to Cocoa; time was just another variable in the complex evolution of life itself. The only things that mattered was the effort put in, the development, and the stellar results produced. Naturally, Cocoa was a curious soul; he enjoyed observing changes in each and every one of his potions and identifying links between them. To him, it was quite interesting to observe the development as his potions took form.
Perhaps brewing potions was just like nurturing life, Cocoa thought, musing over this curious analogy. Without the proper effort and care, either one could potentially deteriorate into sad failures. And that was why life was so precious to him. However, biotic forms were different from potions - some strong, wilful forms could still thrive and grow without a kind and caring environment. Quite remarkable.
However, Cocoa still preferred potions. They were, in his opinion, less fragile to handle than living creatures as a whole. Quite hypocritical compared to his earlier statement, but then those were just his opinions. Opinions were just as useful to a healthy mind as forks were to soup, Cocoa mused. Valuable in some aspects, but on the whole useless. As he was deep in thought, a tawny, beaming snout appeared in the corner of his eye. Chestnut. His mate. Chestnut’s visits always brought him joy. Perhaps it was the notion that Chestnut truly loved him that brought Cocoa such sweet euphoria. Of course, he loved Chestnut more. Vast seas would be but a mere droplet in the infinite ocean of his love for her. Crinkling his eyes, Cocoa turned around, greeting Chestnut with a kind and loving smile.
Kindness. Another virtue that Cocoa believed in. After all, kindness was what the world was void of. Poor miserable souls. Another reason why potions were better. Cocoa sighed - but it was not a sigh of contentment; rather, it was a sigh of disappointment. Noticing this, Chestnut snuggled closer to Cocoa with a concerned yet stubborn expression. “Are your thoughts bothering you again? I want to let you know that I’ll always be here for you to talk to if you need it.” She brushed his back softly with a flick of her wing. “Come, enjoy the view with me. It’s beautiful today.”
And so they did.
