Trevelyan
Seeker | Wanderer

Growing up in a large, boisterous Shadow clan ensured that Trev lacked for nothing. Food, apparel, gold, treasures, all lay about for the taking, for so many dragons in one place meant a vast excess of all of it. No one minded when Trev, slightly quieter and more contemplative than his siblings, took over one of the smaller storage caverns and converted it into a little sanctuary. Within that small cavern he kept the piles of gold he'd gathered bit by bit from the hoards of his family, a few nice pieces of silk and velvet, a sizeable chest of lovely sparkly gems, and two paintings from very well regarded artists hung on the walls.

Yet still, he felt dissatisfied. He spent long hours in his cavern enjoying the relative quiet, making patterns with the gold pieces and feeling...somewhat empty. As if something were missing.

Then one day, he heard the whispers.

Every day brought whispers, of course, for dragons loved gossip almost as much as they loved treasure and riches. Stories of silly or unfortunate dragons from other clans featured heavily in the daily information exchange, and this day was no exception to that rule.

The story this time told of a young, foolish dragon who had declared to his parents and his birth clan that he would give away every single item he owned, every single piece of gold, to only use that which he found or from the small stores that some clans offered to those in need.

Trev found himself straightening up on his piles of gold, ears perking. What would it be like to give up wealth, food, money, and only own what you caught with your own claws?

He flexed his claws in front of him, experimentally, and felt eagerness curl through him. Glancing around at his gold, his art, his riches, he could describe whose hoard each had come from originally.

"None of this is mine," he said in quiet revelation. "I could...make my own way."

The thought of it energized him as much as it frightened him. It could be very difficult, maybe dangerous, to rely only on one's own skills instead of a hoard donated by his family.

"I need to find out more," he decided.

That day, he packed up the contents of his little lair and gave the key to one of his sisters, and flew off toward the clan where the whispers said the other dragon lived.

The more he heard, the more interested he grew, and in that moment he decided to embark on the same journey.

"I promise not to spend another gold," he said, and grinned. He wasn't at all sure where he would go or what he would do, or even how he might feed himself, but it felt good to know he held his success within his own claws.

He has since achieved all his personal goals, earning his way without spending a piece of gold, and now spends his time helping other dragons achieve their goals. But someday, he may choose to pick himself up and go wandering, to see what else is out there.
