When children born of Ius and Os hatch from their shells, they seem, to all outward appearances, like weak and frail hatchlings not long for life. They all die on the third day of their birth, are buried and subsequently crawl from their graves two days later, looking very little like the tiny, sick half-corpses that were lowered in.

There is no mourning, no solemn ceremony. If the Plaguebringer sees fit to grant them life, they will return much stronger than before.

Of course, not all hatchlings emerge from the dirt.

All four hatchlings of Lokh's nest, him included, take a vow of silence when they emerge from their earthy graves.

He learns the basics of signing with his claws from the clan's interpreters, but instead finds another language far more alluring: music. Eventually, after years and years of practise, he masters the lute, the lyre, the mandolin-- all tools of a bard's trade.

Now, Lokh wanders vast Sorineth, playing his merry tunes and sweeping ballads as he travels. He takes requests with a slow smile and a nod, and will gladly accept a meal or tankard of ale as payment.

Life's a bright, lovely song, and he's living the best of it.
