Cast from the shadows into the never-ending torture of the light, Kaito brings edginess to a whole new level! Kaito's hobbies include brooding, lamenting his endless angst, and speaking very rarely, in such a deep gravely voice that nobody can understand him.

He's also a water ridgeback - born of something he instinctively hates. This gives him something to angst over when life has otherwise been going well.

Even the most angsty of dragons has to earn their keep, and Kaito is no exception. He works as a chef, specializing in soups and seafood. Surprisingly, he's not awful, even if most of his meals have a slight aftertaste of sadness and regret.

In order to keep up his appearances, Kaito makes sure to sharpen his spines to make them and himself as unapproachable as possible. They have an edge that could cut though the awkwardness that hangs in the air when he's around. After they've been shed, he keeps them to use as knives for preparing fish.

His cape is pinned with the skull of a deceased Serthis, who was once his friend but died in an incredibly tragic accident. An accident so tragic that one could spend their entire life blaming themselves for it and pushing everyone else away to spare them from sharing the same fate, but that would be a terrible idea. Then again, Kaito definitely isn't known for his good ideas.

Lost in his own awful version of the world, Kaito doesn't even try to make things easier for himself. While it's possible he's been in fights before, that's not where those scars came from — those are from trying to wrestle live sharks into the kitchen to prepare sashimi. Instead of doing something as simple as gutting the seafood beforehand, he just complains to himself the whole time about being stuck dragging thrashing sea monsters around while everyone else is inside their cushy laboratories doing pointless experiments.

Everyone else thinks he should be thankful that he's the clan member least at risk of exploding.

Surprisingly enough, he actually washes his tattered clothing reasonably often. Theory is he purposely tore it to shreds with his own claws, much to Kushiel's horror.

For a dragon like Kaito, believing that the gods are dead fits right into his worldview. This makes him about the only dragon to have bought into Damas's conspiracy theories. A shame then, that the two can't stand each other. Damas hates Kaito's negative attitude — the gods may be dead, but instead of giving up everyone needs to work together to fill the void left behind before it's too late. Meanwhile, Kaito simply thinks Damas is intruding on his style. Nobody so tiny should be able to look that much cooler than him. He's gotta get get some of those ankle knives for himself.
