Awidat rested in mighty redwood tree, overlooking a field of sunflowers, mentally dissecting a message he had received what seemed like only days before. He rubbed a light rune, a present from Lightweaver herself right before he had been sent here. He could still practically feel the warm sunlight that framed her bright being.

A green guardian will arrive.

Awidat looked over to the right, the light glistening off of the waves of the nearby Water Flight. She said the guardian would be at this location. Sure he was early, but still. He had a date with destiny.

Your decision.

Awidat found himself wondering what the Lady of Light had meant by that. What was the question? What kind of situation would he be finding himself in?

With your help, her scales will be kissed by the sun.

A female. Interesting. Very interesting. His yellow eyes scanned the sunflower field yet again, surveying the area and figuring out where he would make a den. Perhaps he could get the other dragon to make a den for him and he could figure out a stable food supply, one that wouldn't be exhausted over time.

He took flight, finding a nice spot up against the tree trunk in which he could curl up and take a nap. Awidat was a few days early after all.

Several days pass and Awidat found himself figuring out how he would make this place his home. Sure he was being rediculous, this was supposed to be a meeting location, not a place to call his home. He didn't even know what he would have to be deciding in the first place!

Awidat picked up a stick that he had been playing with earlier that day and took back to the skies, scanning for the mysterious green guardian. In what felt like a mere chance, he spotted an unfamiliar lump.

There.

Swooping down, he gently landed on the soft, green grass. He did his best to be quiet as he inched closer. There was no telling how this guardian would react to his presence. For all he knew, the dragon would be protective over the land and lash out at him. He wasn't in the mood to figure out how to heal himself.

Figuring he was far enough away to avoid harm, he used the stick to poke the guardian. He repeatedly poked at her and she used her wing to push the stick away. Frowning, he jumped up onto her, hoping that he could get the attention of the larger dragon. Unfortunately, he didn't think that she might roll over.

Awidat let out an undignified squeak for the few moments that she had been on top of him. She quickly moved and now, fully awake, she stared down at him with a look of confusion followed by a sense of awareness and something that Awidat would characterize by calm.

"I am Lorian." She stated, staring at the green fae, "It is my duty to ensure your safety."

So this is what Lightweaver had spoke of...

Awidat tilted his head, his pale yellow eyes meeting hers, "I am Awidat and you're late."

The two stared at each other, neither daring to move, even as the sun rose high into the sky, "What clan are you from?"

The fae poked her with the stick in what seemed like a playful gesture, "As of just a little bit ago..." He smiled, "Yours."

"Just like that?" Lorian frowned, "Why do you trust me?"

Awidat dropped the stick and came closer, "Just as you instinctively want to keep me safe, I want to stay by your side and keep you safe, my matriarch."

Lorian got up and stretched, "We shall be of Clan Lodzhal" She looked fondly around her, admiring the area, "and this will be our home."

Awidat loved tinkering around with new things, should it be new machinery, magic, alchemy reagents or anything else that happened to come into his grasp. In fact, he spent most of his time in his workshop, filled to the brim with all sorts of items of varying shapes, sizes and purposes. His desk was covered in scraps of parchment with notes that were more often than not written while in a delirious phase before Lorian had found, caught and physically dragged him to bed.

Speaking of his mate, she was doing much better since he and the clan had gotten together and used gene scrolls on her. Of course she had given consent, but it was still quite the surprise. Part of him had wondered if he wanted to do something like that to himself. He found it to be a bit off-putting that he was so much smaller than her, but that was mainly because of the playful teasing from his clanmates on how she was much larger than him and how could he even hope to be a good mate for her if he couldn't even lift her tail should she not wish it.

He fluttered up to the highest shelf in his workshop and gingerly removed a sealed pot from behind some old tomes, covered in a thin layer of dust from the experiment that Lorian hadn't even known about, Lightweaver bless her heart. Within, he pulled out three cookies, one of which he shoved into his mouth, before putting it back where he found it. Awidat carefully looked around to make sure that no one had seen what he had done before gliding down to the only cleared space. He pushed his small body up against a stack of books, filled with loose papers, in order to better stabilize the leaning tower and if anything, to get it away from the small sanctuary that was his workstation.

He nibbled on a cookie as he shifted through some of his old notes, much of which seemed to be utter nonsense. It seemed to be some kind of alchemy recipe, but alas, he had forgotten to write what it was about or even the reference from where he found it. Did he just come up with something off the bat in a fit of deliria?

Curiosity got the best of him though. So as he shoved the last cookie into his mouth, he fluttered over to where the newest shipment of alchemy reagents were and plucked out what the list called for. Awidat dropped the ingredients in the appropriate quantities into a travel sized cauldron that he had wanted and got Lorian to pay perhaps a bit too much on.

Glancing around the room, he sighed and darted out of the room to grab more wood. Luckily he managed to pull it off unnoticed, especially knowing that Lorian would want to pull him off to bed at any time now. He shoved the sticks in the designated area in the cauldron stand and carefully lit it up. The colorful goop bubbled and popped from the heat. He stirred the mixture up with a long spoon he kept nearby for such tasks and intently watched the mixture for any signs as to what it was for.

So intent on his project, he didn't hear the flutter of feathers or the clearing of a voice.

"Hey, Awidat, Duves left for Lightweaver this afternoon and so I'm not sure what to do with this miscellaneous shipment. Lorian's in a meeting with the dunhooves, so I thought you'd know what to do, being her mate all. I know you're not the second in command, but you know how Lorian thinks and with Duves being gone now, we don't have a new second in command yet...."

Startled, Awidat jerked back, pulling the cauldron and its contents with him. He could feel the burning sensation of the colorful, sticky liquid coating his belly and leg. As he flailed around, he could feel more of the liquid coating more of his body, warming him all the way down to his core as he screeched.

Daron looked utterly horrified.

"Help me!"

Daron snapped into action, quickly grabbing the closest thing to a towel from his bag and rushing to Awidat's side. He patted the smaller drake with the scroll and rubbed the alchemical reagent off. The smaller drake calmed down considerably and took over the cleaning process, so Daron put out the fire with a container of water for situations like this. He then used the remaining bit to wash Awidat off and used a second scroll to try the fae off.

Awidat's scales let out a flash of light before morphing before Daron's eyes. The coatl couldn't help but cringe as the smaller drake's body elongated and morphed into something entirely different.

Awidat looked up at Daron, his large, golden eyes peering up at the feathered drake in confusion. "What? Did I lose a wing or something?"

"No! No, not at all. You just.... uh... grew four more."

Awidat jerked away, quickly darting to the nearest reflective surface, his long body tripping and dropping piles of stuff over in his uncertain movements. Looking back at him was a face, not of a fae, but a spiral with markings quite unlike what he had had only minutes before the accident. "What were those scrolls?"

Daron looked down at the remains of the scrolls, dripping with water and goo, spiral and circuit gene changes.

"Hm, spinner and skink. That's what that recipe was. Fascinating."

"Are you alright?" Daron sheepishly asked, knowing that at least part of his clan leader's mate's transformation was his fault.

"Never felt better. It'll take a bit to get used to this form, but I already know it's going to make life much easier." The drake responded, his voice breaking from the usual monotone that faes are renown for. As the drake admired himself in the mirror, a sudden realization hit, "How am I going to explain this to Lorian?"

The two drakes looked at each other, a feeling of dread washing over themselves. It wasn't that Lorian was terrifying, it was more along the fact that Awidat was her charge and as such, she was rather protective of him and his well being. Was she going to panic?

"Quick, Daron, leave my workshop and continue with your errands before retiring for the night. I'll deal with my mate. You never know, she might like my new coloration."

"But don't you think she'll be more concerned that you're now a completely different breed?"

"I'll tell her it was planned all along. She'll be more concerned by me playing with alchemy recipes resulting in unknown substances--"

"Awidat, it's time for--" Lorian peered into the room, her eyes growing wide at the new sight, "What did you do?!"

"Science, my love, science."
