Amelie

Little Amelie sees more than she knows, and knows more than she tells. She understands deeply what others only wonder. Many wonder, for that matter, if she is indeed mortal. Amelie is never on the ground. She might be, at any given moment, in a universe feared by warriors, or worshiped by children. Her familiar alone has perhaps glimpsed her world, being as attuned to the clouds as she is. One can only hope to hear her late-night whispers, or to catch her gaze. Amelie often speaks with children; they seem to understand her as no adults could. Babies, however, are her conversants of choice. While their mothers look on, Amelie speaks in tongues understood only by the very young. She is admired by some, feared by others. Some believe she protects the clan from certain demise. For her own part, Amelie is not sure what they think they believe. She is not even sure what she protects against, but she knows that it is dark, and she is the only one who speaks its language. She understands, in some part of her mind, and that is enough to keep it away.
