Biography
DEY-breyk
The Rebel
The Rebel
Daybreak is sort of mischievous and very playful. She can also be very gruff, and can have a very sharp tongue, but for the most part she keeps her bite confined to her wit. Her goal is not usually to seriously offend. She enjoys flying in short, acrobatic bouts, and looking at the rest of the clan from...interesting angles. Sometimes in order to sneak up on them and sometimes just because it's a more interesting viewpoint, Daybreak often can be found using her long claws to crawl about the walls and ceilings of the clan's burrowed den.
Daybreak was hatched and reared in the Tangled Wood. She grew up loving games and loving victory, like the rest of her clan, but as time wore on, she grew frustrated with the impulsive and inconstant atmosphere of her clan and the flight as a whole. Her frustration mounted until at last it drove her from the clan.
She doesn't like to say how long she traveled or where she traveled through: even her mate doesn't know. “I'm here now, aren't I?” she's been heard to say. “That's information enough for you lot.” That's the most anyone's ever gotten out of her, and it's likely all they'll get.
Some time after she arrived, after Sha'uri and Mulligan had had their first hatchling, Daybreak took an interest in the Imperial who'd arrived not long after she did – the scholar with a stowaway. She was curious about him – about the way he learned and worked and studied. He never played: he was always studying. She took great amusement in distracting him. She took his notebooks; she stood in between him and the dragons he was observing; she sneaked up on him from the ceiling and made him jump (this she only did once, because the burrow had not yet been properly expanded, and she nearly took an antler through the face).
Time passed and curiosity and games turned into something more, as they sometimes do. Daybreak and Mercury are now fully devoted to Pippin, their first hatching. While she still has time for games and snark and occasionally even some weaselly mischief, Daybreak is discovering a new side, simultaneously tender and shockingly fierce.
She put that ferocity to the test one day not long after Pippin hatched. Daybreak is best acquainted with the Tangled wood, so when Mercury said he needed a sample of the phosphorescent fungus that grows there, no matter how reluctant she was, she was the one to make the trip. She came back two days later with no fungus and a mirror hatchling.
She found him, abandoned or orphaned, hiding under a bush from an Owlcat. The Owlcat didn't last long. She's called the hatchling Foxglove, and she watches over him with the same ferocity with which she watches her own.
