Lore Notes

Shadow Rune Shadow is the most common element for a Nightcaller. Much like Peyton, they are believed to have been blessed by the Shadowbinder and are artfully cunning in their own right. Those that possess the element of Shadow are nefarious and secretive, getting their claws into all manner of deadly trickery.

Not all Nightcallers inherit the blessing of Peyton. Those without magic in their veins will take up the mantle of tooth and claw, Urban's strength burning within every fiber of their beings.

Also much like Urban, these warriors are zealous with everything they do, and are notoriously relentless in their pursuits. Every Reaper develops their own unique skills, honing them to terrifying extremes.

Reapers don’t run away from anyone, no matter how big or strong the opponent may seem. They believe every match makes them stronger, and the more matches had, the more deadly the Reaper. If the outcome of a fight is not fatal, then it can hardly be called a fight at all.

There are many tales surrounding the Nightcallers that warn of the danger that they represent. These children derive from the sacrilegious union of Death and His Maiden, representing the impending demise of all dragonkind.

As the first part of their name implies, Nightcallers are more active at dusk. This does not stem from any sort of aversion to sunlight but from a lingering connection to the Shadowbinder. They are more in-tune to the pull of the moon, and find the height of their senses when the sun sets.

The second part of their namesake stems from a more distinctive trait, one with unknown origins. All Nightcallers are known to perform an unmistakable cry, recounted as a foreboding and horrible howl that sounds more beast than dragon. What this night call means is not known to the rest of dragonkind, but it is not a sound that one wants to hear when wandering alone at night. It is theorized that every individual Nightcaller has their own distinct howl, as unique as any individual's speaking or singing voice.

Nightcallers possess a fatalistic tendency to disregard their own well-being and will run headfirst into danger. Most of them are just that confident in their own abilities that they will accept any challenge that life presents to them, even if they know that the outcome isn't in their favor.

They are unattached to the ways of Sornieth and other worldly possessions. They understand more so than other dragons the fragility of life.
