Traits: Calm, Authoritative, Deep
"The high destiny of the individual is to serve rather than rule."
From a very young age, Triton knew he was different. Whenever the other hatchlings in the nest would race around, playing Warriors and Beastclans, Triton would stay to the side, observing his nest mates. He would stay like this for a while before caving and joining in. But it quickly became apparent that he made the mock battles a bit one sided. Triton would rally whichever side he joined and, almost without fail, that side would prevail. It didn’t take the other hatchlings long to decide he wasn’t much fun to play with. But Triton was not long for the quiet confines of his nest and the lair of his parents. As soon as he was able, Triton spread his massive wings and took to the sky, desperate to see what was beyond the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He longed for knowledge, longed to see how other dragons lived and worked and played. So he let the wind take him. He drifted through Sornieth, stopping where he wanted and visiting those clans he wanted. Most of the time he was met with open claws, invitations of dinner, and friendliness. However, there were other times he was met with suspicion and hostility. And as he traveled he grew in wisdom. Through his travels, Triton came to realize that he was an especially gifted warrior, with a knack for strategy. He enjoyed friendly bouts with those he came into contact with. He won these contests every time. His fame began to spread and soon dragons came from miles around, looking for him, hoping to test his mettle. Time and time again, Triton defeated each opponent. He was showered with wealth and glory, as dragons began to acknowledge that he might be one of the most powerful dragons in Sornieth. But something was missing – Triton was simply not being fulfilled. Being a renowned warrior was not his destiny. So onwards he traveled. The call of the waves led him back to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He trawled the shores daily, shunning company, dejected. It was on a day such as this, that Triton heard a ruckus. And through the ruckus, he heard the sounds of distress. Racing through the dunes he came upon a chaotic scene. A Maren tribe had surrounded a small group of dragons, jabbing at them menacingly with tridents. With a battle cry, Triton flung himself into the fray. He was hopelessly outnumbered, but managed to give the beleaguered group time enough to take flight. He led them to safety and graciously accepted their thanks and invitation to dinner. They led him quickly over the beaches and to their lair, a rocky cave in the side of a cliff. They were greeted at the mouth of the cave by a stern Guardian, demanding to know where they had been and what had taken so long. She stopped mid-lecture. Her deep blue eyes met Triton’s. There was recognition there. “I’ve been waiting for you. He told me you’d come.” And Triton felt a chill run from his antlers to his claws. A quiet sea breeze ruffled his mane. And then he smiled. The Tidelord had indeed led him straight to his destiny. “My name is Triton. And I’ve been waiting for you as well.” |
