the shaman apprentice
"she who dreams"

You awaken, and your mind feels full of cotton. You're keeping your eyes open, but you see nothing except for stretching miles of blackness. Trying to move your arms results in a wave of nausea, so you still and try to breathe deeply.

Finally, as your vision slowly blinks back to normal, you realise you are lying on your back staring at a dark ceiling. It's unfamiliar.

Sluggishly, you manage to pick yourself up to a sitting position and take a look around. You see various piles of herbs and flowers, hoards of half-used candles and dirty candle-holders, jars of substances akin to jams and honeys. The only source of light is the opening at the bottom of a door a few feet away from where you're sitting on a mound of dried grass.

This is not your home, and you don't remember how you got here.

Just as you're about to stand to your feet, the door flies open with a thud and you let out a reflexive scream, jerking away from the movement.

What greets you is no barbaric kidnapper, or rampaging beast, or evil old witch - but a purple, glistening dragon wrapped from head to toe in equally flashy gear.

She, too, lets out a surprised yelp, and then looks around the room wide-eyed before looking back at you. "What! Are you seeing things?" she asks, then her long mouth stretches into a grin. "Me, too. All the time. Part of the job, I think. You can get used to it, don't worry!"

You say nothing, merely staring at her quizzically. She gives a quiet laugh at your expression.

"Confused? I found you passed out outside my room. Come on out, the fresh air will do you good. And if not, I can offer an array of fun medicines for you to try - I'm always on the search for willing test subjects!"

Not liking the sound of that option, you get to your feet and follow her outside. It seems you are in some kind of forest, although most vegetation seems grey and withered. The trees grow tall but their bark is dry, their leaves floating down with the slightest breeze.

The Spiral notices your expression and seems sheepish. "It's not great, I know. I don't really like it here either, but we make do. Anyway, come on!" She swoops past you, her long body curving forward and disappearing into the woods.

We? you think as you follow, having little choice in this unknown land. You step into the forest and despite the spacious gaps between the trees, you realise you've lost track of the Spiral. Telling yourself to keep your cool, you keep going.

For a while, you're convinced you've lost her for good, and are doomed to wander in these woods until some unfortunate fate meets you - but then you hear her voice right next to your ear.

"By the way, I'm Camille. You're not from here, huh?"

You look to the right where you heard her voice coming from, but see nothing. As you turn your head forward again, you catch a flash of purple to your left and realise she's floating next to you. Despite yourself, you release another surprised yelp.

She grins. "I thought so." She starts moving again, this time keeping by your side, and you're slightly relieved. No more jumping-out-of-nowhere kind of surprises, you hope. "I can introduce you to the rest - but you know, I've always liked the sound of an adventure."

You give her a questioning look and her eyes drift upwards as her imagination takes her to a place you cannot follow. "A stranger wandering into our lands, leading me to unknown places filled with different plants and animals and dragons and spirits! Making friends, going on a grand quest, falling in love, the lot of it! Doesn't it sound wonderful?"

Sounds pretty rudimentary, in your opinion. You're not left much time to reply before she zig-zags directly in front of you and stares at you.

"Come on. Don't you want to experience it, too? Aren't you curious about what could lie out there?"

Something about those bright pink eyes of hers seems strangely familiar.

"I can take us. I can do it now. All you have to do is tell me where. Tell me, and I will take you."

Where...

Where?

Where are you?

"Tell me."

Where is it? Who was it? Who did it?

"Say it."

Your mouth moves on its own. Your eyes register a smile. Your ears hear one word:

"-- Luck."

As the Clan's shaman apprentice, Camille spends a lot of her time studying-- except no, she doesn't.

Much preferring a hands-on approach, Camille lets her experiences lead the way in her learning. After enough whining and begging, she managed to convince her mentor to assign her tasks to complete rather than books to read. She is still under rather strict watch however, and ensures to memorise everything on the go as best she can.

Luckily for her, Camille is a natural, and it doesn't take her many tries to perfect a potion, or identify and extract a poisonous herb, or find just the right words to speak the dead into temporary conversation. For this reason, she breezes through most of her daily work and spends most of her free time exploring the edges of the Starlites territories, inching closer and closer to the borders each time she does. Her curious nature often takes the best of her, and she has had a few secret escapades that she guards as her most treasured secrets.

Her young heart yearns for adventure, all the thrills that come with it - but her love for her art leaves her grounded in her Clan, she knows. Unable to find a balance between her two passions, she is torn on what to do and seems to almost live a double life, dutifully completing her job on some days, and carelessly getting into trouble at the borders and wishing for an opportunity to leave on others.

ness is camille's mentor and while camille often finds her stern ways to be amusing, she is the dragon camille respects the most in the entire clan.

as they are both apprentices, camille sometimes tries to persuade akio to join her in her escapades, but akio rarely humours her wishes.

sylva is camille's best friend and the only dragon to put up with her excitable attitude long-term. she tends to take him for granted, but loves him dearly.
