Biography

wIZBBCy.png
the shaman
"she who bewitches"

A delicate scent flows along the breeze, gently tickling your skin and senses. You find yourself following the alluring trail, each exhale leaving a sweet tinge on the tip of your tongue.

The forest around you grows dreary, the plants swooping down in yellow arches of exhaustion. The grass slowly stops its rustles, and with each step your footfalls quieten under the emerging sand and dry earth. Even the trees seem different here - their bark as if all the colour had drained through their roots down into the ground, their leaves as if washed out by a storm cloud. But the breeze strengthens, and you know you're headed the right way, so you don't slow down.

You don't know how long you've been walking - minutes? days? - but finally, a small clearing opens up before you, and there you see it: a mound rising in the dark earth, dry vines hugging its walls, and there in the middle, a slab of mossy wood blocking the entrance. Smoke rises from an opening near the top of the mound, and as it nears you, you close your eyes and breathe it in, letting it spread deep within your lungs. You take a few steps forward, relishing in the aroma.

When you open your eyes again, your heart lurches in your chest.

Bright eyes stare right into yours from between the blades of sharp bone, piercing you to the very core. You hold still, unable to move, and in that moment you feel acutely aware somewhere within you that there is no escaping.

The smell is beautiful. She, too, is beautiful, the dark and green of her scaly skin contrasting against the beige of her mask, her threadbare clothing leaving little to the imagination... But your attention returns to those enrapturing pink eyes and you cannot look away from them, nor do you want to.

As if detecting your thoughts, she moves at last - and offers you a smile. The way her lips curl revealing sharp canines leaves your pulse thumping heavily in your throat, as if you expect them to sink into your neck right then and there.

She backs away, never turning away from you, and pushes the wooden door open, stepping aside. You try to look inside, but see only darkness and more smoke billowing out towards you. After a moment, you move closer, and closer, and closer, until you're right in front of her. Your arms shake and cold sweat rushes over you, terrified yet thrilled to be in her presence.

The inside is smaller than it seemed, but your eyes are drawn immediately to what lies in the middle: a cauldron, heated by some unseen force, its depths bubbling and glowing a faded green. You watch the murky colour dance off the interior, yet you can't really tell what you're looking at. Furniture? Walls? Tree bark? The haunted faces of others like you, trapped, screaming--

Something cold grips your shoulder and you tense up, not daring to move or look towards it. Then, you feel her come around the other side of you, her pink eyes gleaming brighter than anything else in the room- no, anything else in the world, anything else you've ever seen.

She doesn't say anything, but you see it in her eyes: "Come." You're about to nod, but she lets you go before you even have the chance, as if detecting your surrender faster than your own mind did.

You sit in front of the cauldron - perhaps on a bench, perhaps a chair, maybe the earth, you really have no idea - and watch her form disappear into the shadows, then reappear to add something to the cauldron, stir, inhale. This, too, feels like days or weeks or a brief moment in time, and you are thankful to be allowed to observe this silent spectacle.

Finally, after five minutes and an eternity, she approaches you again, extending her arms towards you in offering. You struggle to tear your eyes away from hers, barely managing to force your pupils to turn downwards towards her outstretched hands. There, you see a small earthen bowl, filled with a substance you can't quite make out.

You reach out your own hands, and she places the bowl in them. Her skin feels delicate despite the scaly marks, and you shudder at the touch. You bring the bowl closer and glance down at its contents, expecting a slimy concoction to bubble forth.

Instead, the pale green liquid looks more like a herbal tea, swishing in the bowl as easily as water. Then, the scent reaches your nose - and oh yes, this is it. This is how you found yourself here, surrounded by the mystical imagines of fairy tales. The sweet aroma makes you close your eyes again, your mind unable to concentrate on anything else but the scent of grass after the rain, the laughter of a child, your grandmother's cooking, the crackle of a fireplace. Home.

You didn't even realise you brought the bowl closer until you feel the tip of it against your lips, and you open your eyes. She is still there - staring at you intently, expectantly, commandingly.

You tip the bowl and pour the contents into your mouth. It tastes bitter.

You barely have enough time to finish the last gulp before you hear the shatter of the bowl against the ground, free from your grasp. Your vision sways. Heat rushes through your veins. Your breath catches in your throat.

In the chaos, only the bright of her eyes remains distinguishable - you stare into them with all your might, defiant and yielding, shaking but stubborn. You feel yourself hitting the floor. Are your eyes closed, or did your vision disappear? You don't know. You don't care.

All you can think about is that pair of pink orbs boring into you, and only you.

You manage a smile.

⚜ Ness ⚜

"I come along but I don't know where you're taking me
I shouldn't go but you're wrenching, dragging, shaking me
My soul is so afraid to realize
How very little there is left of me
And I want you."

serious | solitary | dedicated

Ness is the shaman of the Starlites Clan, and tends to stay at the edges of their lands, preferring solitude to the company of others. Being one of the dragons of the founding party of Starlites, she is highly regarded by most of the others and always present during the bimonthly Clan meetings to discuss any changes or affairs. Other than those and the occasional funeral ceremony, she stays in her hut at the far end of the surrounding forest.

Although she's knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics, including potion-making, herbalism, foresight and spiritual communication, her passion lies deepest in the subjects of death and, by extension, poisons. There is no expert like her when it comes to determining the causes of death, the details of one's passing, the methods and time and causes. She also has extensive knowledge of various poisonous plants and animals, how to extract and use them, the specific effects and how lethal each is - all the more reason most prefer to stay clear of her hut.

Usually serious, blunt and introspective, from time to time she can flash a surprisingly charming smile or say a bold pick-up line if the right dragon catches her eye. These are rarely anything more than little glimpses past her aura of mystique, and she has never pursued her short-lived fancies.

Her apprentice is the complete opposite of her, and the Spiral's careless attitude often drives Ness up the wall. Despite this, she knows Camille has a natural apt for the practice, and so tolerates her naivete and is secretly quite fond of her.

tiny is ness's good friend and they've known each other for years. she often brings various supplies of herbs for ness to use in her work.

although she usually seems annoyed by her apprentice, ness treasures her company and hopes to see camille take on the role of the shaman herself some day.

she and vince often don't see eye to eye, and have to agree to disagree on most matters. she dislikes his brashness but respects his strong leadership and drive to get things done for the sake of the clan.
