Sirion
Shadeguard Mage
Master and Weaver of the Binding

Sirion was present at the founding of the Shadeguard, one of the two who received their gifts in trust from Emalien, himself.

He had been a mage of no little strength before. Afterward, he was unrivaled among the Shadeguard for his ability to read and sense the deeper currents of the arcane ties which lingered among all of them. Each of the three eldest traveled to the farthest reaches of Light territory in search of new recruits to move to their cause. Those earliest years remain some of his fondest memories of the Golden Age of their order. Their enemy was clear and their sustenance was plentiful.

He found a mate among the youngest, so far removed from the gifts of her elders that he could barely sense her link to the first of their number.

In their victory lay the seeds of disaster.

Sirion was the first to discover how his powers weakened when there was no Shade to fight. The same blessing that made him immune to the dark influence of chaos had also altered his connection to the Light. It was no longer enough to grasp his element when conjuring. Every spell, every charm, required a measure of Shade to function.

He ate and starved, breathed and suffocated.

One by one the youngest of the Shadeguard began to die. In desperation, Sirion sought a way to stabilize them by strengthening their ties to him and the elder members of their order. Emalien was more than a week's flight away, which meant there was no time for him to seek permission before transferring every bond to the eldest and strongest.

He worked as fast as he could, but still lost Ineria and so many others close to him.

-

Now, after more slumbering and waking cycles than he can readily count, Sirion has come to accept that his haste to save as many Shadeguard as he could had other consequences. Many dragons come out of their hibernation without ready access to their memories or history.

His waking hours are spent attempting to maintain, improve, and repair the bonds which first looked like salvation and more and more appear to him as shackles.

~

With Emalien caring for the waken Shadow Guard Sirion felt he could afford space between himself and the elder. Since there awakening Sirion sensed a growing uneasiness creep between the two, Jael’s appearance had been the final blow that sent Sirion from Emalien’s side. Her acts still fresh in Sirion’s mind he sought space while she decided who she would be once awoken.

Upon his departure he was informed of a dragon who held a wealth of knowledge taking residence in a nearby allied lair. Choosing this to be as good of a place to start as any he sought out this ridgeback.

The dragon known as Kiaran was vastly knowledgeable about an array of topics, Sirion found himself enjoying the time spent picking the strange ridgeback’s mind. However as the days turned to weeks Kiaran’s personally began to shift.

To Sirion’s curiosity the ridgeback’s change was accompanied by an alarming increase of raw power. As this power increased Sirion began to recognize the signature of the thought lost Warlord Archleone buried in this creature. Though Sirion suspects Archleone lacks the ability to wield much of the power he now possessed he was intrigued to see such a change.

For now Arhleone’s choice to remain peaceful and even helpful to Sirion’s cause has earned him temporary safety. So long as Archleone cooperates Sirion will shield him from the detection of those who may wish to challenge the much wakened Warlord.
