Biography
Melinoe: Greek goddess/nymph of nightmares and insanity.
Clan Ritualist
Wise, quiet, calm, superstitious.
Melinoe was special from the beginning. The obsidian crackle upon her skin appeared to form a vague birthmark of the Plaguebringer's skull on her hip, though this has been debated amongst clan members. Though the lair is not strictly religious, Scythe viewed this as a sign of a chosen child and opted to allow the young Imperial to stay, an option scarcely given. As she grew, Melinoe felt spiritually connected with the festering wound that was her land and decided to change her species in order to explore this power further.
The forced transformation into a Pearlcatcher resulted in the immediate creation of her pearl. The sphere never quite lost its original black hue, to the confusion of other Pearlcatchers in the clan. Later, it would glow when Melinoe looked upon it, showing images only she could see and decipher. As time revealed her ability to be both true and useful, the Leaders gave her the leeway to perform whatever rituals the Broodmother requested of them.
Plague rituals often require the shedding of blood, though not usually enough to result in death. Because of the creepy nature of her vocation and the misunderstood power she possesses, however, even some of the Plague-born members in the clan cannot help but be unnerved when they look into Melinoe's red eyes, reflecting the deadly glow of her pearl.
