Sonnai
The Glassblower
Lightning strikes, delicately Arrived in the Clarus Clan on December 2nd, 2015 A tidy, well-kept Guardian who enjoys her privacy. She is moderate and works to keep a balance within her life. She tends to avoid conflict, and any who would bring conflict into her presence. Sonnai prefers to remain on the beaches below the cliffside, where she has set up a small hut in order to work on her glassblowing. The loneliness, with the crashing waves and the cawing gulls the only sound, is calming. Occasionally, some of the Water Flight dragons in the Clan will come down and splash and play, but their cheers and joyful shouts do not upset Sonnai - she is glad to watch from afar, living vicariously. Nobody has asked her what her Charge is, which she is grateful about, for she would rather not talk about her dilemna. Unfortunately, her Charge is not a what but a who: the Guardian Dosa, a clairvoyant who does not allow any close to her, in fear of seeing their death-date. This makes it challenging for Sonnai to get to know her and stay close to protect her. Although both are from the Lightning Flight, they are not closer because of it - in fact, Dosa avoids Sonnai, simply because she is from Lightning. Sonnai understands the reason (Dosa was struck by lightning long ago, giving her what she believes to be her curse), but understanding does not make it easier for Sonnai. |

Sonnai reluctantly settled for watching over her Charge from afar, protecting from a distance. Feelings for Dosa grew complicated within Sonnai, but she knew she could never act on her crush until Dosa first accepted her as a friend, and a protector. She didn't want to set her hopes too high, but Sonnai was patient, and she loved Dosa with all her being. She could do this. |

And then it all changed. After Sarako's betrayal and the imprisoning of Adagio, Sonnai felt more compelled to guard her Charge from danger. Sonnai tried to get closer to Dosa, although the other Guardian was never willing to open up to her. The Clan felt a shaky peace - which didn't last long. A string of disappearances plagued the Clan for some time, causing Sonnai to worry for Dosa, who often was out on her own; Sonnai grew paranoid and defensive. And when Dosa disappeared too, without a trace and without a hint of returning, Sonnai knew her fears had been all too real. There was an emptiness inside her, something she would never be able to replace. Sonnai did not think she could go on without Dosa - her Charge, and her love. The great Guardian fell into a deep depression, which the rest of the Clan could never understand, for Sonnai had never shared with them the truth of her Charge. There was nothing to do but lie down and accept her fate - a failed Guardian, a failed life. The days dragged, and the nights never seemed to end. She went without eating, without drinking; as the weeks wore on, her energy dwindled. She had lost all will to live. She would follow her Charge into oblivion, she was certain of it. But then she felt a shift inside her. A brutal lightning storm swept through the Gladeveins, the currents of electricity charging the air. On a night like this, Sonnai would be by the cliffs, basking in her element, prepared to catch the newly-formed glass, ready to begin her work. Instead, she was curled in Dosa's old nest, unable to lift her muzzle from her paws and admire the Stormbringer's work in the skies. Until lightning crashed too close to the Willow, catching a dragon by accident. It was Doria, the Lightning Pearl. She was fine, uninjured - in fact, she was strengthened by the touch of her element. And all of a sudden, Sonnai could feel the presence of her Charge once more. It couldn't bring back her will to live, but it brought back her need to live - to protect her Charge. Even as her heart broke and shattered with the obligation to leave behind Dosa and her memory, Sonnai felt the Guardian instinct within her stirring with urgency. She needed to protect her Charge. |
