Haunted Flame Candles

clan historian and bookkeeper. spends much of her time researching mythology and the afterlife. zaecaru has become a sort of assistant to her research. she finds comfort in his presence, ominous as it is.

she is quite fond of her little Speedy, as much of a troublemaker he can be.

"Hm?" Misao hummed, delicately turning the page of the book she held, enjoying the sound of her claws on the rough parchment.

"I have always been curious," Zaecaru piped up again, slithering up besides her to skim over the passage she was currently reading. "That's wrong." He added suddenly, pointing to the messy text with one claw. "Apparitions are not always bound to the earth. As soon as we finish what ties us to the mortal world, then we can leave for the afterlife."

"Is that so?" Misao murmured, mostly to herself than the Spiral. The Skydancer reached across her desk for her quill and ink. "You were going to ask me something earlier...?" She inquired, sending a curious glance at Zaecaru.

"Ah yes. What was your life like, before you joined this clan, Misao?" He curled closer to her, turning his attention on the quill as she began to edit the passage with a deft paw.

"Harsh." She answered simply. "I wasn't really welcome within the clan I once resided in. They didn't really... appreciate my fondness for written works." Setting the quill aside, she lightly blew on the page to dry the ink, before propping the book up so Zaecaru could see better. "Is this alright?"

"Yes." The Spiral mused, smiling. "You write rather exceptionally."

"Thank you." Misao set the book down, flipping to the next page. "Zaecaru?"

"Yes?"

"How come you don't complete the task that ties you to this world?"

"Ah... I wish it was as simple as that..." He sighs a bit, leaning back, red eyes catching the soft light of candles. "It would take me a long time..." He mused. "And frankly, I'm too old for any new exciting adventures."

"But you're dead." Misao observed. "Wouldn't it be easier in death?"

"It's more complicated than that. Look, you should edit this passage as well." He pointed out, quickly changing the subject.

"Alright."
