Helps guide those who are leaving- whether to other lands or to the afterlife- with them every step of the way (though usually unseen in physical journeys, his protection is with them) until they are safely at the other place.

Maybe because he has been so close with death from the beginning- indeed, most of his hatchlings either died or were exalted- perhaps it's a way to make up for the ones he couldn't save. Paternal instinct?

zaecaru is an apparition who hangs around the clan. albeit not being alive, everyone has adapted to his presence in their daily lives, and consider him to be a part of the clan just as everyone else is.
he's a sad old man who inhabited the domain before the others arrived. his bones are displayed in the main hall, almost as a trophy of sorts. zaecaru isn't able to pass on from the physical world to a spiritual realm because of old historical ties. he generally spends his days reading in the clan library and telling stories to the younger members of the clan about what his life was like long ago.

newcomer Misao has taken quite an interest in his ties to the physical realm and has begun to dedicate much time to researching what may be holding him back.
