He grew up listening to the music of Wind, hearing the breezes whistle through the reeds and make discordant and haunting tones, feeling air currents whisper through his feathers with songs of joy and loss. So really, it’s no surprise that as soon as he could write, he was putting words to the melodies he constantly heard.

His voice is sweet, and the golden markings spelled across his body proclaim to the world that music runs in his blood. Sonata’s favorite thing is song, seconded only by travel. Unfortunately, travel is difficult for him. He can barely see clearly two feet in front of his face. Anything beyond that is a blur.

It didn’t really stop Sonata. He learned to pinpoint the sounds around him and navigate around other dragons that way, and to listen to the whistle of the ever-present wind as it parts around solid objects and avoid those as well. Unfortunately, this means he can never travel outside Wind territory, but Sonata doesn’t dwell too much on that. There are plenty of other musicians he can hone his craft with here.

For a long time, he criss-crossed Wind territory, exchanging songs and tips with any other musically inclined dragon. There’s always a song in his throat and poetry in his clawtips, just itching to be sung out into the clear air. He came to Zira’s clan like he’d come to any other - with no expectations other than to meet other musical dragons, stay a while, and then move on.

But then Oro came into his life.

Energetic and warm, Oro gave Sonata a sense of stability he’d never really felt before. Sonata couldn’t tear himself away from the little Coatl’s friendship and guidance. In just a few days, they became fast friends, and Sonata never followed through on his plan to leave Zira’s clan.

Sonata’s music fills the air, and Oro twists his body into the melody, and they’re both happy.
