Bio and Lore
shadowmidsmall2.png

Amberline was a wanderer. It seemed that the whole of the Tangled Wood was her home; she would appear, disappear, and reappear to many who traveled through its dark boughs. Foes were easy enough to avoid, for this was her element, the swallowing darkness and the maze of trees. But those who were lost, hurt, stranded - to these she would show herself, and give whatever aid seemed called for.

This was her purpose. To some, she was a kind phantom, or a lucky trick of the light. To others, the bearer of the Shadowbinder's gift, a reminder of her power. But to herself, she was free, and simply doing whatever she could to help free those who had been ensnared. She saw no reason not to.

But all that gradually changed. Her purpose stayed the same, that was still and what likely always will be the force that keeps her living. But much of the Tangled Wood where she frolicked seemed to grow empty. Perhaps dragons were not venturing out as freely due to Beastclan activity; perhaps a safer traveling route had been established, or perhaps other shadow clans had claimed nearby territories, swallowing up all the visitors. For whatever reason, she now wandered alone.

She was never one for much conversation, and was fine with spending much of her time alone, but never running into anyone had begun to make her patch of forest feel hollow and empty. There was a clan who she considered to be her home, and she still loved them. There would always be happy memories there. However, the time had come for a change.

So she wandered through the lands of Sornieth, seeking a place to roam that would feel like home again. Eventually, she found her way into the Viridian Labyrinth. For some days, she felt that it was just as empty as her patch of the Tangled Wood had become; no scent of a dragon. But then she found an odd procession. A small group of serthis and harpies were camping out in a glade, accompanied by a guardian dragon whose eyes trailed the wind.

The guardian took her to a clan full of travelers, warriors, researchers, gardeners, and everything in between. She explained that most of them got there because they had simply wandered into their forest and decided to stay. People were getting lost and frolicking about the forest all the time, she said. Apparently it was a wonder that the clan remained hidden so well with everyone bumping into the territory. There were always eyes and wings out in that forest.

It was perfect. She would have to write home and recommend the tea.

Alright. So going against the usual Will-o-Wisp's agenda, she possibly assists in guiding those hopelessly lost inside the Tangle. With her mastery over Shadow magic, as showcased by the Godess's Blessing which pours as She pours, she can coax any form of bramble or other Wisps from her client's path. Some dragons can be jealous and she rebuffs them with gentle words.

She often manifests for hatchlings and other innocents or "on death's door" creatures, providing fresh water and cooling salves for the wounds inflicted by prolonged wandering and thorns piercing the softer spots in hides.
