xxxxxxxxxxxx She wakes only when the whole world is asleep. She wakes slowly, softly, silently. Then she rises, like a shimmering cloud, ascending to the heavens from the earth. But her aim is not to stride through the stars. Instead she takes a sharp left, parts the pale rose-colored mists, clears the cloying fog that whispers at the edges of her vision, and then she is there. In the land of dreams. This is her domain, and here there are no angels, no wings, no halos. Here she walks each night through others’ troubled sleep, and she swallows nightmares whole, the bitter taste dancing on her tongue. These are the moments she savors, the acrid flavor sliding down her throat.

Although she is the master of this realm sometimes she makes mistakes. Takes a bite of a dream that soars through the sky light as air, tastes spun sugar as its sweetness melts on her tongue. When this happens, when she is poisoned by this joyful whimsy, she immediately recoils, devours a thousand nightmares in an attempt to clear the candy sweetness from her mouth. All this goodness upsets her stomach. All this wonder makes her retch. She is not here for any kind of daydream. She is here because she is the dream eater, and what she hungers for is nightmares.

She walks in dreams. She loves to eat dreams. She loves the bitter taste of nightmares, and hates the sweet good ones as they upset her stomach and cause her to throw up.
