xxxxxxxxxxxx She thought about death a lot. Which really wasn't the sort of thing to tell other people. They'd look at her with that same squint of their eyes, the furrow of their brows, and those incredulous words of, "Why?" and "Don't you think that's not healthy?" and "Maybe you just need to smile more."

So Lyneth kept her head down, her mouth shut, and went along her way.

When she looked at the mailman making his daily rounds, the black miasma of death clinging to him, Lyneth didn't bother pointing it out already knowing that everyone would call her crazy. When she saw all the other dragons with their too false smiles and their falsetto voices, Lyneth didn't tell anyone that she saw a cloud hovering over them like a disease.

Some people the darkness clung to them like a shroud, caressing and sheltering like a dear, old friend. Others, it hunted, lurking behind corners and clinging to them like soft spider's silk and scorching trails.

Sometimes, it felt like she could sense the wrongs before they happened. A beacon in the night, a flashing arrow pointing to the next target. Sometimes she was right, shaking her head when the others asked how she wasn't surprised. Other times, she was wrong, the miasma dissipating on the next morrow, as if it had never been there in the first place. And a few times it clung to the dragon like a plague and tainting them black like all the other monsters. A flag staking its claim.

Lyneth keeps to herself, but she's always there. Kinda like a ghostly presence only she's not a ghost, and she's fully visible. She sees some weird things though, and she's almost positive she can predict people's deaths with it. Not that she'll tell anyone because it seems a bit suspicious if she can almost always predict that someone's going to die, right? Like, almost as if she had a hand in it. Which she didn't, obviously, because Lyneth's not that type of person.

Lyneth is incredibly neutral about a lot of stuff. Ask her how her day was, and she'll say it was fine. Ask her if she enjoyed the party last night, and she'll say it was perfectly fine. Ask her if she'd prefer pizza or pancakes, she'd say okay. Which, ya know, is kind of irritating. Especially if you're trying to plan a dinner party and you want to make sure she has something she'll like, and she just gives a non-answer all the time.

She does like books though, not that she admits it. Nor would she be caught dead reading any. Mostly she just likes the thought of books and not actually having them. And she also never volunteers information about herself, so no one even knows she likes books so it really doesn't matter at all.

Lyneth's not sure where she got her special powers from, or even when. It honestly just seemed like one day it was a thing and that was that. She's pretty sure she didn't have it when she was really young, but she's also had it long enough that she's not even sure if there was a catalyst or anything or even what she was doing around the time. It's like her life was boxed into two sections: Before Powers, and After Powers. With the Before Powers section being super duper young and only vaguely remembering bits and pieces of her life.

Lyneth was always in Shadow. Born and raised and never left. She has some issues with her parents that she doesn't like getting into too much, and she mostly stays away from her childhood home for reasons better left unsaid. At the same time, this is her clan, this is her home, and she's not leaving it, thanks.

Lyneth's parents are Lou and Theia, who ended up getting divorced around the time Lyneth moved out. She loves them, but also has issues with them. Because Theia went from completely empathetic to being super crazy dismissive (Which kind of hurts, honestly? Because as her daughter, Lyneth isn't used to seeing her mom be so cold), and Lou now moved in with someone else and it's kind of awkward hanging out with her dad's roommate when she's still not sure if there's something going on between them. Is her dad dating someone else now? Is her mom? It's all weird and crazy and Lyneth kind of stopped trying. Plus, considering how tense everything is, maybe it's better if Lyneth lets her parents deal with their differences themselves and not get involved.

(She does miss family dinners, and late night talks, and weekly movie nights, and general hanging out and laughing and talking and feeling like their family was whole and not this crazy shattered mess that everything fell into. Sometimes she wonders if she could bring it all together again, but then thinks that maybe her powers are a bad luck charm that caused it all in the first place. And then Lyneth stops thinking altogether because she's going down a rabbit hole that really shouldn't be gone down.)

Lyneth is secretly the patron to Cerussite's bookstore. Cerussite doesn't know about it, and Lyneth never told him. It's because she likes books and she thinks that the bookstore is a good addition to the clan, even if half the other dragons here are either too busy living life for books or they're kind of maybe sorta crazy. Honestly, Cerussite doesn't even know where the money is coming from, and Lyneth doesn't put her name anywhere. She pretty much steals all the utility bills and upkeep costs out of Cerussite's mailbox and sends it off. To the debt collectors, it looks like Cerussite is paying it himself. To Cerussite, it looks like the debtors randomly forget to send a bill for that month.
