The clock struck twelve and stayed that way. Its chime long lost and the hands frozen in time. Einiona glanced at its clouded face as she walked past, a reflex even though she knew it wouldn't tell time again.

"Why do you still keep that there?" asked her neighbor when he was over for a cup of tea, glancing at the wooden grandfather clock in her sitting room. "It hasn't worked in... how long, now?"

"Five years," she said.

"And you haven't tried to get it fixed or something?"

Einiona shrugged and steered the conversation away, hiding behind her smiles and laughter and offhand comments.

The truth was she had tried to get it fixed, multiple times. And though it always seemed to work in the moment, somehow, always, once it landed on twelve o'clock, the mechanisms froze and the ticking and tocking ceased.

After a while, Einiona stopped trying.

After a while, Einiona could swear she heard the soft chiming of the clock ringing the new hour echoing in the middle of the night.

Something happened to Einiona and she never really got over it, and that bled into the rest of her life. Einiona lives her life in a haze, going through the motions and unable to move forward ever since that day.

She has friends and family, and she has the perfect mask so no one ever really realizes that there's something else going on. The only thing that's a bit odd is her weird clock, but people just shrug and assume she just hasn't had the time or money to get it fixed yet. Which ya know, could be true.

H i s t o r y
Einiona was born and raised in this clan, but by whom is a bit of a mystery. There're rumors, because when are there not, but nothing concrete. Some think that Einiona was an orphan that was raised together by the clan. Others think she was born out of wedlock to Tanithe and Lyneth, which is kind of insane considering one, they barely talk to each other, and for another, don't they have to have spouses for it to be considered "out of wedlock"? Also, Tanithe is crazy, so. No. A hundred times nope.

So. Uh. Five years ago (At least, five years ago from the scene), something happened. Einiona won't talk about it, and no one's really aware of it either. It wasn't like a death of a clan member (People would've talked... and also considering this clan's filled with murderers and serial killers, it's kinda not uncommon for people to die. Which sounds insane, and I don't know why anyone would even live in this clan.)

Basically, at midnight one day, Einiona's clock stopped working. Which in and of itself isn't all that strange. Clocks run out of batteries or breaks and it's normal. But that was also the moment when it happened to her. It being whatever it was that happened. And I don't say "it" because I also have absolutely no idea what happened. I totally know what happened. Trust me on this. Just... don't question it further.

Anyways, so clock breaks. Einiona's life is changed forever. No one else is aware. And she keeps trying to act like everything's normal. At first she tried to make it seem like everything was normal, fixing the clock, moving on and all that. But it doesn't work. Somehow the clock always gets stuck at twelve. It's not even that it works for a few hours until it reaches twelve and then it stops. Sometimes it's within ten minutes of setting the time to say 1:15, suddenly the hands are back to pointing at twelve and it's stuck. It's the weirdest thing ever.

All in all, Einiona may or may not be haunted by a clock. And it may or may not be connected to something that happened. And the clock may or may not be symbolism to what happened, and none of this may or may not be actually true at all and it may or may not be how her mind is manifesting it for her to deal with the trauma.
