The greatest mage of this generation, and several on either side of him, Nagara is a genius enchanter, capable of imbuing magic into things that really shouldn't be imbued with magic. Some mages call him a fake, as sealing energy into objects and then launching them at others isn't the same as using one's own magic to perform great feats of skill. As far as Nagara's concerned, though, they're just a bunch of jealous blowhards. Enchanting things, casting spells - what's the difference, when everything ends up as a charred pile of ashes either way? And as his way is far more efficient, he's obviously better.

With his unrivaled skill and knowledge, Nagara should've gone down in history as a legendary mage. Unfortunately, while running from a magical conference after insulting someone's data, he opened a portal in panic and wounded up in the Runic Mountain Range. At first, he was absolutely thrilled. New, unmapped place, and no jail time? An entire new land for him to conquer? Strange flora and fauna to experiment on? Excellent! He forged onto into this strange new world, ready to touch every last spark of magic, blow up every last facet of order, and maybe break a few laws of physics while he was at it.

Then he found out that the Runic Mountain Range was a magical prison where no dragon can escape from, which meant he was trapped there for the rest of his life.

Time again and again Nagara attempted to escape, only to be warped back to the heart of the Range, which conveniently happens to be Myrtle’s garden, where not even the fearless would dare to venture, and the fearful would die in less than a heartbeat. Many times did Nagara weave his spells and cast his enchantments, only to fail, as the ability to charge things with magic really doesn’t do much to help you escape from a giant magical mountain range. Finally, after his biggest attempt as escape (by building a magical rocket launcher with himself as the rocket), Nagara found himself soundly facedown in a pool of Myrtle’s cannibalistic kelp, where Demeter eventually found him sobbing as Myrtle casually sharpened her garden trowel on a nearby rock. Fortunately for the enchanter, the Fae leader convinced Myrtle to step down, and had Astraea help Nagara back to the clan lair, where she promptly forgot about his existence and left him mostly soaked in the front lobby.

Eventually, Nagara got himself back together and declared himself as a temporary clan visitor. He was not a clanmate, he insisted. He would pay for his room and board, and he would leave as soon as possible. The Aequitas Clan just nodded, and hit the Karma Cafe for front seats as the Nocturne immediately attempted his next major escape. It was going to be a fun few months.

X0jbnvC.png There’s a gambling pool in the Karma Cafe as to when exactly Nagara would give up attempting to escape and accept the fate of being a prisoner of the Runic Mountain Range. So far, nobody has won yet. It may not actually be possible to win, as Nagara probably won’t ever give up. Theoretically, that would mean Universa would win, as her bet was “never,” but since he’ll never give up, there’ll never be an end, which means there’ll never be a conclusion, which means nobody will ever win.

Nagara is well aware of this gambling pool, but can’t find it in himself to care. As far as he’s concerned - and he’s not very concerned - Clan Aequitas is full of unremarkable dragons resigned as passive victims of the mysteries of magic. He feels sorry that they won’t ever escape like he eventually will, but he won’t be the one to help beggars. He considers himself generous enough for taking pity on them by joining the clan as an unofficial clanmate. Some dragons would point out he only agreed to such after he ran out of money to pay for board, but doing so usually ends up with Nagara screaming incoherently as he hurls bits of enchanted objects at them.

As far as escaping goes, however, the future does look quite bleak - though of course Nagara won’t admit that himself. After failing to launch himself out of the Runic Mountain Range, he enlisted the help of Erigone to help him in his escape, as the Skydancer is one of the few dragons who is actually capable of bypassing the Droste Maze spell. The first time Erigone helped him, he was ecstatic. He was free! This lasted for about three minutes, before the spell pulled him back into one of Myrtle’s apple trees, thanks to the fact that he hated the Runic Mountain Range with an intensity that’s actually quite impressive. The second time, Nagara attempted to seal himself in a safe place right after exiting the Range via Erigone Express. The Range simply yanked him back and send him headfirst into a row of rose bushes. The third time, well, he doesn’t like talking about the third time. Or any of the attempt after that, as they are all failures and usually end up with Myrtle grabbing the Nocturne and flinging him at the nearest sharp object.

Thus, Nagara resigned himself to the fact his plans would be delayed a little. Just a little. So, he might as well be somewhat involved with the Aequitas Clan, seeing that they had the few dragons who could freely enter and exit the mountain range. To that end, he offered to be a merchant, as his trips to the outside world are frequent enough to trade with other dragons out there before the Droste Maze yanks him back, sometimes without his merchandise. He managed to create a pendant that would tell him whenever he’s about to be warped, which does help lower the number of free items he inevitably gives to the dragons he’s trading with.

Despite being an enchanter, Nagara refuses to enchant anything for the rest of the clan. Some say it’s his egoism in action, as he often claims that he doesn’t want to waste his superior skills on a bunch of mundane dragons. But it’s far more likely that his hatred for the Runic Mountain Range extends to a point where he doesn’t want to do anything even remotely beneficial for the residents stuck in the mountain range.

To be fair, Nagara doesn’t actually hate the Runic Mountain Range as a whole. As far as magical prisons go, it’s pretty nice. What he hates is the Droste Maze spell that gives the mountain range its inescapable property, as it is the one spell that he is utterly incapable of figuring out. Oh, and he’s tried, believe me. From attempting to find the limits of the mountain range to straight up trying to blow a hole in space, he’s tried. Tried, and inevitably failed, which only adds to his ever-accumulating hatred for the Range, which is why he, of all dragons, will probably never escape it.

Nagara also hates Mythic, as the latter is a much better spellweaver than he is. Though the Nocturne may be blind and partially paralyzed, Mythic remains an amazing mage, capable of unweaving any of Nagara’s spells and undoing any of his enchantments, which means that nobody in the Aequitas Clan can appreciate Nagara’s enchanting mastery, as there exists someone far better and far more trustworthy. Nagara hasn’t done anything to express his hatred, of course. He knows better than that. But he’ll make a move soon. Perhaps by talking to Isfet. The trapmaster looks to also share a grudge against Mythic, and Nagara could use a few explosives.

Nagara does get along pretty well with most of the dragons in the lair. It helps that he hasn’t actually interacted with them enough to be scared away. Erigone, of course, is his best friend, as the Skydancer doesn’t mind ferrying him out of the Runic Mountain Range. Moonfeather and Seraphina are pretty nice, and Valenya is kind enough to allow him access to the clan’s archives, even though it’s pretty clear to everyone else that she’s only doing that to steal his notes. Nagara also once considered recruiting Harmony and Vanya to his cause, but the Fae twins bother him. Really bother him. It’s like they’ve been touched by the Shade or something, and no thank you. He’s got enough problems with his life.

Ironically, he also feels the same Shade-like aura from Erigone, but that can’t be. His free express ticket out of the Range wouldn’t be involved with the Shade, because if Erigone was, then it might mean Shade magic has something to do with breaking through the spell, and Nagara feels queasy every time he has to even think about touching that corrosive type of magic.

On the rare days when he's not enchanting things, lamenting his fate, or trying to escape the Runic Mountain Range, Nagara can be found in the Karma Cafe brooding and pondering the mysteries of the universe. He can occasionally be found chatting with Herayla, but most of the time, he's just there for his favourite treat - a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream dumped in hot dark tea straight from the bitter depths of the heart. It'll either cure you or kill you, there's no in between. It's unknown which result Nagara prefers.

Nagara is utterly incapable of using any weaponry, and will instead throw random bits of enchanted things at his pursuers in hopes that they'll stop to pick it up, or that the things will explode in their faces. In a tight situation, he can also use that sword he carries, which is a heirloom left to him by his ancestors. Of course, he wouldn't know how to unsheathe it with a manual and a live demonstration, but that sword makes for a pretty good hitting stick in a tight situation, and by now he's enchanted it to the point where he can easily crush a Snapper's skull with a single swing.

Nagara has the strong belief that Mythic's snake Lotus is actually a magical serpent that is responsible for Mythic's unrivaled spellweaving. To prove that he is just as good as Mythic and even better, he stole a corn snake off of Viper. His snake goes by the name of Cherry and supposedly assists Nagara in his escape attempts. Of course, being a stolen snake, Cherry spends most of his time sneaking treats from the Karma Cafe and occasionally slither back to Viper to report on what Nagara's doing.

Those jewels he wears serves no purpose whatsoever. Well, once upon a time, they were exquisite, rare crafts of Ashfall Wastes metallurgists, forged with only the most expensive stones and metals. He possessed those luxuries for his first ten minutes in the Aequitas Lair, before someone promptly stole them off of him and replaced them with fake jewels. Nagara has yet to noticed this. Or maybe he has, and is simply too embarrassed by the prospect of being robbed to mention it.

Despite his obsession with escaping the Runic Mountain Range, Nagara remains devoted to his craft of enchanting. After all, he’ll never catch up to Mythic if he doesn’t improve, and so he often spends hours reading through Valenya’s books and searching for new and ever-increasing complicated magical spells. Venti has warned him on several occasions to not burn the candle from both ends. He was just being figurative, but Nagara saw it as an insult to his esteemed self, and now most of his time is taken up with futile attempts to burn a candle from the middle without lighting himself on fire. He hasn’t succeeded yet, but he will. He’s a mage. He likes fire. He likes burning things. Goddamn candle will not defeat him!
