B I O G R A P H Y

Murmur was a quiet dragon. An accident early in his youth had rendered him speechless, hence the nickname Murmur. He was an unremarkable dragon in most respects--his natural looks were rather plain and he didn’t attract much attention. In other regards, however, he stood out from the rest. The detailed ink scrawled on his wings, tail, arms, and pearl was eye-catching, and he was an outstandingly fast flyer. On his off days, he’d race dragons above Skyloft’s breezeway, a silent laugh of enjoyment on his face.

Since Murmur was such a good flyer, he was selected for one of the most vital roles in the clan. He would disembark for weeks, sometimes months at a time, to deliver messages and packages to and from Skyloft to the rest of Sornieth. When he returned to Skyloft, the clan would flock around him and patiently wait for the mail to be distributed, sometimes leaving small gifts for Murmur as thanks for his service.

When Murmur had a break, he often found himself in the company of Ayanous, who ran the hotel for dragons who were just passing through. The hotel was meant to have a spooky ambiance, but with Ayanous there, Murmur felt completely safe. When he couldn’t sleep for anxiety, he would curl up next to Ayanous and listen to the sound of his breathing until he could slip into slumber.

_The Pearl_

____One of the most distressing things for pearlcatchers was losing their pearl. When Murmur was young, the very same thing happened to him. He went to sleep content after a long day of flying around, pearl tucked under his arm. He woke up without it, gripped by such an intense fear it rendered him speechless. His pearl, which had been safe with him only the night before, had vanished from the face of Sornieth.

He searched high and low for it, but his pearl could not be found. A vital part of him was gone forever. The disappearance disturbed him so much that it permanently muted him. It was only one day, after he’d finished growing, that he found a perfectly pearl-sized, spherical rock, which he took to replace his pearl. But since Murmur couldn’t explain why his pearl was a rock, he had it painted to match the ink on his body. Now he was whole again.

____Murmur took his job incredibly seriously. He was the only courier in the clan, since it was so small, which made it imperative that he deliver everything he was given. And he was apt to do so--unless a dragon had died or moved, he completed the tasks given to him. With the exception of one particular case, which left an ache in his chest whenever he thought about it.

Sunriser would give Murmur a long scroll to send to her family back in the Ashfall Waste, a grin on her face in hopes that Murmur would bring back a reply. Murmur did his duty; he personally handed each one to a member of her family. When he returned to Skyloft, Sunriser would waddle out to him, waiting for someone to hand her a scroll. But no one ever did, and her smile grew smaller until it died. He could see her hope snuffed out in her eyes. After a year of unreplied correspondences, Sunriser stopped writing.
