B I O G R A P H Y

It was odd for male dragons to pursue the passion of fashion. The bug was only allowed to flourish in the females, which oftentimes was a good thing since males generally didn’t know how to color coordinate. August, however, was one of those males who did. So he whiled away all his free time with the other fashion designers in his home clan and learned the ropes of piecing together outfits to sell to other dragons.

Though many flocked to August’s business, the older dragons in his clan frowned upon his chosen trade. They were stuck in their ideals that females cared more about looking pretty. The elders put forth more effort than was necessary to try to stop August’s tailoring shop from blooming. This was clearly less than ideal, so August set up a treasure jar that, once filled, would be used to pay his way to greener pastures.

The elders were more than happy to see him go. They put a new store in the building August had been using before. That didn’t bother August--he couldn’t remember what it was being used for anyways. He didn’t have a set path for the future either as he was sure he’d forget, so he just wandered until his treasure ran out right at the checkout counter of a hat shop in a traveling market.

_The Future Jar_

____August wrote a label on the jar so he wouldn’t forget--TREASURE FOR THE FUTURE. He couldn’t picture a future for himself, better or worse. But, then again, he couldn’t really picture much unless he could smell it. All he knew was he had to get out of here. This clan, his so called “family,” was absolutely suffocating. If he stayed here much longer, the excessively strict rules the clan tried to shove down his throat would choke him to death. He had to leave.

He wrote a note on his sales box--SET ASIDE 10% OF DAILY PROFITS FOR FUTURE JAR--so that he wouldn’t forget. Every day, diligently, he calculated the right amount of treasure, sometimes twice if he forgot the calculation, and set it aside for his future fund. Every day, as he got closer to his goal, he became more excited at the prospect of leaving. Though it took the better part of a year, August never forgot about the jar even once. Everyone else found it very admirable for a tundra, even if they disapproved of his life choices.

_Spiraling Down_

____August used the last of the treasure in his jar to splurge on a hat that matched his eyes. The spiral who designed it for him was rather handsome, and so it was not an accident when he let his claws brush the spiral’s when the treasure exchanged hands. August knew he’d be back, drawn by the spiral’s smell, sooner or later. He had to get more treasure soon or else he’d forget all about the hatter in Skyloft’s market.

He whipped up outfits for several passing dragons. He’s remembered to bring his tailoring kit and several bolts of cloth, though he was running out and had to pass over the bigger dragons. After the commissions had been completed, August had enough treasure to purchase another hat from the spiral. He repeated this cycle a few more times--since he’d forgotten what his own intentions were--before finally the spiral indirectly named them for him: “if you keep coming around, I think I might misconstrue your intentions.”
