______ Splinter was slow to wake and slow to sleep. Their transition from childhood to adulthood was also slow. Splinter took their time with all things in life and frowned at those whose life sped by. They would reach out only to find the person long gone by the time they arrived. Oftentimes Splinter was lonely, sluggish, unproductive. They needed a friend to while away the crawling hours, week, years. Splinter had no idea how long they would be rooted to this earth, and so they craved to make the most of it.

Many days were bright and sunny, and some rainy and flooded. Splinter sometimes felt their roots shift bleakly, and they disliked it. They wanted a firm foundation to take root in, a place to stay and call home. Splinter wanted someone like them, someone who was just happy to meander and while away the hours with. The days marched on at an unsatisfyingly slow pace. Splinter was ready to give up when they finally found solace: a sapling like them.
