Biography
Ichneumon Niẏati
Firstborn Son Naomi Descendent • Naomi Willow Mara Lyka Amanita Ichne Informal Name • Ichne Mate • |
"How fascinating they are. If only I could make closer examinations without risking the expiration of these subjects." - Sahko Story of the Firstborn Unknown Means Though the Arcane Spiral has long tried to determine the means by which Ichne and his sister came to be, the details of the conception of their eggs still eludes him. The two of them seem to be disappointingly mundane in spite of the strange occurrences surrounding them. And though Sahko kept them in his lab until they were near adulthood, his study seemed to reveal no answers. The two hatched from a pair of eggs that seemed to have been placed in a nest by a male skydancer, their father Tephra. Though he never could explain where they came from, due largely to the intense fits of madness he suffered for a short duration after the discovery of the eggs. Sahko had desired their immediate relocation from the nest to his lab, but the Broodwatcher, a large and imposing Ridgeback, outranked Sahko's desires and would hear of no such thing. Once they hatched, however, Sahko claimed them quickly. Through his examinations, he discovered that they were indeed the children of Tephra and the strange fae he held captive in his lab, though it should not have been possible, as the two had never been in contact with each other, and Amanita was not allowed outside Sahko's domain. He determined that Amanita possessed some power to infest other dragons with her brood remotely, but how he does not yet know. |
Whispers of Release Eventually, Amanita tired of her children being studied by Sahko, as it seemed clear he was making no progress from his examinations. The mute fae engineered their escape from his laboratory and guided them safely from the clan's lair and to freedom. In the dim in cages, the two slept, till they heard faint whispers in their ears, and tingling in the frills around their heads, a gentle calling. When they rose, they discovered their cages were unlocked. Sahko's assistant lie on the stone floor between the cages, clutching the key in her claws. Ichne considered attacking her, briefly, but his sister drew him away, and the two fled from Sahko's domain, into the lair proper. Here, they listened to the whispering voices, which directed them when and where to move and remain unobserved. However, one dragon did track their flight through the lair. The pair slipped out uncontested into the night air. The gentle breeze and coldness of it entirely foreign to them, as they had spent their lives until that point captive. The fresh air seemed to blow away the whispering voices they had followed until then, leaving them in frightful and uncertain silence. The exit to the lair led out to the cliffs of Rotrock and dropped down to the foothills at the edge of the Boneyard, which seemed to stretch out into eternity before them. They had never been out in the open before. They had never flown before. On the ledge above, a dragon they had some knowledge of watched the two, frozen with fear as they were, frozen on the edge of their freedom. Sovri was one of the few dragons who walked without fear through Sahko's lab, and whom they had spied on occasion through the bars of their cages. They did not know he was the King of the clan they were trying to escape from. In the corridors of the lair behind them, other dragons were now roused to action by the Home guard, someone had discovered the cages and Sahko's disabled assistant. Sovri called down to them. "You two must fly now. Quickly, fly now, or never fly at all." Startled, but spurred on by his voice, they leapt from the cliff face into the unknown eternity of the Scarred Wasteland. World Unknown The two flew into the night and did not stop until the sky began to brighten and their wings ached from their ceaseless novice fluttering. They huddled together in the shade if a thin ravine and regarded the lightening sky with deep suspicion. They remained this way until exhaustion overtook them and they slept When Ichne woke, his sister was gone. Panic took him as he searched the nearby area and found no clear sign of her. He clambered up the lip of the ravine and cried out loudly and repeatedly in a pitched and broken braying. He called out for her until he was no longer able to speak, but kept on trying anyway, producing only hoarse gasping as he went. He didn't try to fly again, as he didn't know how to take off from the ground and his wings felt like they might fall off anyway. He wandered in this manner for several days. |
Discovery In a distant and windblown city, Niomi slept. She was set to depart on a diplomatic meeting in a few days time. Perhaps by some inclination towards water's divine divination did she hear a whisper, mutterings of some unknown tongue. Remembered or not, when she and her guards set out into the Scarred wasteland for their meeting with a clan on the outer reaches of their territory there, she bade her follows accompany her on a slight detour, for it was when they approached the boneyard that she swore she could hear cries, forlorn and miserable. It did not take her long to find the ragged and bony little fae, huddled below a corrupt stone spire. His frills were tattered and his green skin marked with scars and cracks from various injuries and topical parasites. Ichne looked up at her, round red eyes widening. He did not recoil when she approached but reached out to her. Without thinking, she went to him, though one of the other dragons in attendance reached out to hold her back. She dismissed the warning claw and gathered the fae up in her arms, where he seemed to immediately fall asleep in her soft plumage. She took him with her and nursed him while tending to her diplomatic duties. He never spoke, he seemed unable to, but once healed his frills were very expressive and aided him greatly in communication. All other dragons found him decidedly off-putting, even those familiar with the ravages of the plague lands. It was not any potential illness they feared, as Niomi was a skilled enough healer to work through all but the greatest dangers the Plaguelands could offer, but something altogether other. It was as if some grim omen hung around the young boy's neck. Niomi had not necessarily intended to take him home, but she could not have left him alone and ill on the edge of the Boneyard. She seemed to treat the occurrence as if they had just stumbled upon Ichne, ignoring that she had taken her company on a detour of several days to reach him. Still, oddness aside, she felt she had no choice in the matter, and wanted dearly to bring the lost thing home. He needed badly a home. |

Fernweh When Niomi returned, plus one Plague dragon she found herself waylaid at the gates. The guardsdragon Aku, reacting with an intense aversion to the fae. It was a comedy of scale, the Imperial so disturbed by the smallest of dragons. Xagra found this highly concerning but found no specific offense in Ichne. Her first thought might have been that he was infected by the Shade, as Aku was, but that did not appear to be the case at all. Indi was called down to look upon the fae and settle any possible disputes. Hearing Niomi's explanation and, finding no observable faults or threats in Ichne, he was allowed into the clan. He did not seem disheartened or hurt by his poor welcome, or by the general mistrust most other dragons have of him. Indeed, once healed he came to thrive fairly well in his new home. Still, he does not speak, save some nights, when he finds the highest tower he can reach and calls out his sister's name until his voice is broken again. |
A Brief Overview of the Naomi Incident
The Naomi Incident refers to an occurrence in January of 2016. A glitch occurred that caused the standard site couriers to be replaced by Naomi, a single fae dragon within an inactive lair. (At the time, all AH goods were delivered via the message system by a set of NPC dragons.) This affected all messages normally sent by these NPC across the site.
So, she started popping up all over. When investigated by clicking on her name it would direct you to her page where her ID was #0. The user's lair had a dragon count far exceeding any number of dragons possible, even though she was the only dragon visible in her lair. Most believed that the number was of exalted dragons and her account had become a data drop for exalted dragons.
In addition to the courier messages, posts made by the deities also had their icons and names replaced with Naomi.
She gained a cult following and is considered by some players a part of the lore of FR and the setting. Adding to this was also the fact she was an arcane dragon, and the arcane flight is known for dealing in strange magics and often throw caution to the wind in their pursuit of knowledge which strengthened the idea of a corrupted arcane dragon glitching out the website.
She had several children, which were all exalted, save one: Willow. It is though Willow that Naomi's bloodline is available to the general player base. The owner of Willow is extremely protective of them, and as of writing, no longer breeds them.
For most Naomi's descendants are a symbol and part of wanting to keep the story alive, as well as having a dragon related to the fae dragon who caused so much chaos. Some might seek them out for lore reasons, or as a collector's oddity.

Fly, fly with the wind,
Take wing on putrid breeze,
Find solace in the plagued & dim,
Find shelter in haven of disease.
Scream, scream until you can't no more,
Because only a day has come & gone,
And you're left alone in the sickened moor,
Deprived of strength and brawn.
Breathe, just keep your breath.
The sun will rise again, upon this place of dark & doubt
Keep your head up & inhale, lest,
Again,
you simply scream it out.
