Kyune

Kyune was hatched into what would be called ‘a treacherous and unsafe environment.’ The young hatchling had the great honor or, in the eyes of some, displeasure, of being born to the leader of the clan, Ilsa. Kyune, from the moment he hatched until he grew strong enough to be independent, had not a moment of rest or respite. From a young age, the wildclaw hatchling was the source of ire and the outlet for his harsh mother. Deep down, Kyune knew his mother cared for him. He knew everything she did was for the greater good and so he could be a stronger dragon, however, it didn’t change the fact that Kyune had been hurt so.

The moment Kyune was big enough to join the adults in training, he was thrown into it. It shaped him. Those brief moments when he was able to let loose and not worry about what his mother thought were pure bliss. When he returned though, he was put down and snapped at for every little mistake. It became clear to Kyune very early on that he had no allies within his own home. They always reported to her. Everyone he thought to be his friend, everyone he thought he could rely on; they were under her careful eye and harsh claws.

Kyune continued onward, toiling for years. Day in and day out was the same. Knowing he could trust no one, he threw himself wholeheartedly into his work; it was the only time he felt like he could breathe. He found a love for traveling Sornieth in a search for stronger and stronger enemies. He desperately craved an opponent that could withstand his strength. The travels also gave him space from Ilsa. With her ruined wings, she could never keep up with him.

In his travels, Kyune took many lovers. He laid many nests and had many hatchlings. Despite all the love they attempted to show him, Kyune could never make connections with them. He found himself drifting away from them even as they lay together. He couldn’t trust them. For all he knew, they reported back to her as well. There was no way he could truly believe when they said they loved him or they would never leave him or they would never hurt him. In the end, they all left. They left Kyune alone.

After many years toiling under his mother’s thumb, she announced a move. She announced that she was done with her reign in the Southern Icefields and needed to settle down after her mate left. So, Kyune and Ilsa left to the Tangled Wood, settling with the Clan of Umbra Thorns. While Ilsa took on the role of wizened elder, Kyune knew he had much bigger plans ahead of himself.

Nowadays, Kyune spends his time doing what he had been doing before: traveling to grow his power and find a worthy opponent and avoiding his mother. Though she doesn’t have as much power now as she did before, it is still more than clear to everyone the lineage they share. They respect her in a way they could never respect him. Kyune knows he has to make a name for himself and he’ll do anything to achieve that. He’ll do anything to escape the shackles of his family and be his own dragon.

In an effort to distance himself, Kyune recently made the greatest change a dragon can make. Using the magicks of scrolls, he shed his Wildclaw skin, instead choosing to take the skin of the ancient Earth dragons, the Dusthides. In this change, he knows he can be his own dragon and show that he is no longer that scared hatchling taking lashing from the old Wildclaw.
