Frostfall

The hair-trigger temper.

Frostfall is an impulsive brawler with an oppressive need to win driving him on. Frost's ingrained anger and belief that there's no such thing as 'fighting dirty' make him an intimidating presence, albeit a young one, and much of the clan is wary of his unpredictability. The underlying motivation in his every interaction is the need to come out on top, to be the greatest warrior and, most importantly, to be acknowledged for it. Any loss or rejection drives him into a cold, self-targeted rage which he takes out on everyone else.

As a hatchling, he enjoyed fighting for its own sake, but as time went on he began to equate his worthiness to success in his only innate talent. When is home clan eventually ran out of dragons willing to fight or deal with him, he left, seeking opponents elsewhere.

Viridiana found him not far from the border of the Tangled Wood, exhausted and snarling. He was too tired to refuse her offer of shelter and followed her back to Clan Weathowbrook, where he slept for several days, barely waking for food and not speaking except to berate himself under his breath for his weakness.

To this day, he refuses to speak of his journey north, although Viridiana has managed to coax him into telling her about his home clan.

After rising from his slumber, Frost was determined to take back his self-confidence and agreed to lend his size and claws to Firoz's digging projects in exchange for room and board with Clan Weathowbrook. Soon, some of the other dragons found themselves wishing he hadn't, as it wasn't long before he consumed his free time by picking fights with and defeating the wyrms closest to his age. He threw himself into these confrontations with a furious force, nearly injuring Geoffrey in a close match and making a quick enemy of Razortusk.

It was a nice feeling, his fellow adolescents either defeated or avoiding him, but the confidence he was slowly regaining fell under the ice once he turned his aggression onto the clan's adults instead. It took Frost very little time to realize that they were they weren't turning him down because they recognized his strength—they were refusing him because they thought he didn't stand a chance, that a dragon of his age couldn't possibly hold up against them. It was enraging, to be discounted with barely a thought.

In many ways that anger has yet to abate. Frost continues to tell himself that he'll show them, all of them, from the snobbish weaklings hiding behind their rocks to the hunters he knows he can take and the warriors who look at him as nothing more than a nuisance. But most of all, Frost has decided, most of all, he's going to show the fugitive.

Frost has discovered since arriving at Dragonhome that he is the youngest of three guardians in the clan to hail from the Southern Icefield. One of them is his direct superior, Firoz, whom Frost grudgingly respects for his work ethic and keen eyes. But Icejet makes his Ice-aligned blood boil, as he has from that very first time they met and Frost caught a glimpse of his shackles.

Were Icejet almost anyone else, Frost would have thought twice before challenging a dragon several times his then-size. No matter how good or creative of a fighter Frost was, he was too small to break through an adult guardian's hide. But Frost was furious at being excluded by the adults, at being avoided by all the dragons his age, at having left his home just to find himself in this dusty wasteland where the only one who wanted him here was an old tundra desperate for company whom he couldn't bring himself to leave. It didn't even matter to him how conflicting his reasons were at the time, because most importantly, he was furious because he knew this dragon didn't deserve to have made it this far north without feeling the defeat Frost had during his travels, didn't belong on the mainland at all.

Of course, Icejet ignored him, and Frostfall's hatred and muted hunger for recognition have only grown since.

Frost reminds himself often, when at work and when alone, that he will grow larger, that if none of the adults will fight him then he will spend his free time hunting down opponents from the wildlife or the Beastclans. He has almost convinced himself that it can't be long before the others take him seriously, before his tearing down of every creature who stands against dragonkind will earn him the respect he desires. Viridiana agrees with him when he tells her he is supposed to be here, that this is the path he needs to walk, even though Frost himself isn't sure he believes it.

The truth is that the cold night air in Dragonhome is still too hot to be the home he's missing, and there's no one to blame but himself. The truth is that Frostfall can never be the distant, emotionless Ice dragon he views as ideal, and he has convinced himself he can never excel in any field except combat, where he trips up too often for his liking. The truth is that he is desperate to stop feeling like a failure but nothing ever really makes that go away for more than a few golden moments of victory or comfort. Some things help, of course, like expending as much energy as possible on his digging assignments or speaking to Viridiana, who is kind and gentle enough to reach him. All it takes, though is a misstep from a coworker or another dragon intruding into his discussion and he's balancing again on the edge of that furious explosion, always just under his skin.

Much of the clan is wary of him, wondering what he'll be like once he's grown out of his awkward adolescence into adulthood. He's dangerous, some of them say. Others point out that he's clearly capable of being more than that, as his friendship with Viridiana and respect for Firoz seem to show. For the most part, the clan is undecided about him and so they leave him be, a lonely guardian ready to blow up at the dragons he so wants to approve of him.

But there's an important question whispered about in conversations where a dragon mentions Frost, a question that might change everything: what's going to happen once he feels the pull of his Search?

Frost has a bit of an attitude. He followed after his parents and trained well when it came to fighting. But, he enjoys fighting a little more than he should. He would often pick fights with other dragons, old, young, weak, strong. There was no reason for him to pick fights with them other than he wanted to fight. This unique style of training helped to boost his skill immensely and dragons in the clan stopped accepting his invitations to fight. With the clan dried up, he left, still young, and sought out other dragons along the road with which he could test his abilities.
