Why does he stay? He lost the competition. Shadowbinder blessed Dusklight - no second place dragon could ever gain her favor. The dragon who came in third left long ago. He even wears a magic light on his head, pale mimicry of Shadowbinder's mark. A sore loser? Maybe. He takes every chance he can to mess with Dusklight's life - harmless pranks, of course. No true Shadow dragon would dream of hurting their victims, except in self-defense.
Because he stays, he has been put to work keeping the clan safe. He works with the Lightning dragons to design unbeatable security. Not to block, because the clan blocks no one from entry without reason, but to alert clan members to an unfamiliar dragon's approach. Then Jinx will meet the newcomer. His riddles and quick Spiral mannerisms confound dragons unfamiliar with him. Through his trickery and sleight he draws the truth from any unexpected dragon who passes through. Then he fades back into the forest, only appearing to the same dragon twice if they choose to stay.
